Update. I installed the latest firmware on my dsl modem and also direct connected my printer to the modem and printer works! So it is solved and I want to thank everyone who took the time to help troubleshoot even though it turns out it was hardware issues. I am grateful. -Jeff

Well, I thought I made some progress. I started a live session of Mint to try to configure the printer. It was unable to print a test page though it "saw" the printer just like CrunchBang. In desperation I looked at the connection and noticed that the printer was the last device still attached to a wired hub that was then attached to the DSL modem. I attached directly to the modem and the printer configuration was uneventful in Mint. Test page worked. When I went back into my installation of CB, everything seems to work until I get to the print test page screen. Jobs get submitted but not printed. The pause icon keeps showing on the printer icon. When I go to properties/policies the enabled button is not ticked. When I enable it is not persistent. Interestingly there is nothing in the queue. Also, at the Select Device screen Mint showed two network entries, the Brother HP Laserjet 4050 and a HL 5250DN (the model of printer I have). CrunchBang only shows the first. So, I am still at a loss.

No, that didn't work. The tick mark on the printer enabled button keeps going off under the Brother printer though. Sorry, wish I had good news.

There was an error during the CUPS operation: 'client-error-not-possible'.

@chaanakya, sorry, I am obtuse, I do not know how to find the IP address of the printer. In the printer properties it shows "lpd://BRN_802207/BINARY_P1" also says unable to locate...

Hi, I am just a user trying to get CrunchBang to do all that I need. I am very happy for the most part. I have been migrating away from Windows XP because I lost the install disk. Hardware=eeepc 1000HE. OS=CrunchBang Statler, ran updates at first run, printer support, did not go with Zen. Sound works, wireless works. I know next to nothing about linux.

I am trying to get my printer working. It is a Brother HL 5250DN. Not directly connected to computer, trying to configure as network printer. When I run System/Printers/Configure Printers, enter user password, add printer/network printer/find printer responds "Brother HP Laserjet 4050" Press Forward finds drivers, I select printer from database, I select the recommended driver, get to print test page, page gets submitted, nothing. Takes me to printer properties I press print test page or print self-test page, gets submitted but nothing. I have also tried the other drivers.

I've also tried going to http://localhost:631/admin
press add printer button, input username/password gives response "Add Printer Error" "Unable to add printer:" "Forbidden". If I enter Root and user password brings back screen to enter user/password. The printer works in Windows, there is paper in the printer. I don't know what to do. I've tried to resolve by searching the web but I'm lost.

@malachias, what does it mean to uncomment the last line? I don't have a clear understanding of what is going on.
