With a slight modification of that, thanks to harski from #crunchbang, I tried this:
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -a | awk '{print $3}')After that, and a reinstall, EVERYTHING WORKS. For the first time. Everything. My god. I now never need to leave #! again. Thank you so much, guys. I really appreciate all your help.
I tried doing all those things, and fglrx still wasn't working, so I tried something I found from an ubuntu forum.
sudo /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh # (if it exists)
sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx*
sudo apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-ati xserver-xorg-video-radeon
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-dri xserver-xorg-core
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorgWhile it didn't fix the problem, I got an an error after trying to install the drivers this time, so maybe there's some hint to what's going on. It created a log in /usr/share/ati/fglrx-install.log:
Uninstalling any previously installed drivers.

Yes, that's what I'm using right now.
Wow, I totally planned to put that in the original post. My apologies.
I have the ATI Radeon HD 5600, and I'm using the proprietary 8.881 driver, 32 bit.
Hello, fellow bangers!
I've been exploring many different distros, and always come back to crunchbang. Unfortuantely, I have an issue on crunchbang I've never had on another distro. When I resize or move a window around, or when I scroll up or down on a page, it's very jumpy and lags quite a bit while repainting the page. I ignored this as merely an annoyance until I tried to run neverball, and that didn't work. This is the error I receive when I try to run it:
~$ neverball
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 139 (ATIFGLEXTENSION)
Minor opcode of failed request: 66 ()
Serial number of failed request: 14
Current serial number in output stream: 14glxgears and presumably anything else accessing whatever that is (I think it's videoram) give the same error.
I can't seem to find very much information on the subject. Would anyone happen to have an idea of what's up?
