Conky works fine in Gnome, i used to run both when i used mint. (mint 10)
The issue is getting it to start on bootup. That can be a real pain.

it is advisable to start it after gnome is already loaded with a script

Hello to all from Italy
First of all congratulations to this great distro
I got to #! after several distros and was impressed by its speed and stability
My pc is a bit old-fashioned (p4 dual core 1gb ram) now I'm using #! Statler  ubuntu10.4 and unfortunately xp
sometimes is a bit complicated for me to follow the threads do not speak English, but fortunately there google translator and my English comes from there and I apologize for this
I must say that many resolutions (for ubuntu also) I found this forum and I want to thank everyone for what you do
