Autofill user name in lightdm login/lock screen?

In SLiM greeter its was easy to do. How do this in lightdm greeter?

Edit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf (Menu -> System -> Login settings)

Uncomment and edit what you need to in the "#autologin" lines.

NB Many questions like this can be answered by going to the wikis in the Help menu item

I thought /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf gets overriden by debian's own config file.

What works for me is to first install AccountsService...

sudo apt-get install accountsservice

Then edit /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/01-debian.conf and set...

greeter-hide-users=false

Reboot.

I tried this but not working.

Now I must type user name and password to unlock screen or login screen, I would like type only password to unlock/login to system. Is there any solution?

I'll have to do some more research then, because my post is the way that has worked for me in the past.

EDIT: Nope, my mistake. @OP wants to autofill username, not autologin  :8
(Another reason I prefer Slim, apart from the better themeing possibilities it has!)

@blpl, I just tried without accountsservice and that works too, at least with only one user on the system.

You probably missed my post.

In /usr/share/lightdm.conf.d/01-debian.conf set...

greeter-hide-users=false

Then reboot.

Exactly. This solution was in CB and still is for example in Xubuntu. On login screen your username is typed, you have to type only password.

By the way, I think current solution in Hydrogen's lockscreen (type username and pass) as a kind of impediment.

Right, in Bunsen make the same change in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.bunsen at line #100. You can change the other file back or leave it, it gets overridden by this setting. Reboot.

Not everyone wants this. A lot of people don't want a username at all coming up. Others would prefer to use accountsservice to populate the entire user list with the added possibility of custom icons per user.

Just to clarify the files a bit.
(As to lightdm's settings themselves, I'm not an expert.)

The default config file is /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.
What gets overridden by Debian is not the whole file but the default greeter-hide-users=false setting, by /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/01_debian.conf
If greeter-hide-users=false is explicitly set, by uncommenting the line in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf, then it should override Debian's default.

It's made more complicated by BunsenLab's custom settings. We use a file /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.bunsen, and the standard /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf is now a symlink to the bunsen file. (This is managed by dpkg overrides, via the config-packages tool.) You can edit either file, the symlink will ensure you end up in the same place.

I don't think it's necessary to install accountsservice to get the users unhidden, but it is needed if you want custom user icons.

Point 1) for the custom default login icon is already done in BunsenLabs, but point 2) might be relevant.
