Re: Forgot username

Did you forget your username or password?

If you forgot your username, you could just boot into a Live CD and check your home folder. There should be a folder with your username.

If you forgot your password too, then after getting your username, boot into rescue mode, drop to shell and run passwd username.

Rescue mode:

Re: Forgot username

Hello
I'm sorry the CrunchBang project is over, though it will remain perfect for refurbishing old hardware with slow performances and personally I'm using it as lightweight virtual machine in virtualbox on windows

It was some time I was not using it anymore and for a black hole in my mind  8) I was not able to remember my user name eheh

I've landed here and on another page (this one) which unveil an even worst scenario  sad

Not only this will easily allow to find your username with no need of anything else but just your same CrunchBang, but even worse and quickly as well, this will allow to change your user password but even worse than worse the root password too

Just boot CrunchBang, after GRUB choose for recovery mode and do what you want.

From that moment on, you are root

you can passwd root user
you can browse to /home directory and check your user name
you can passwd your user name

Cor

Re: Forgot username

@Corsari -- thanks for the link.

As Forthy notes, this thread is rather old so I'm going to close it.
