grub2 not allowing a full reboot

I would not make mention of this in here but becuase it is happneing again, this has to be a grub2 thing and not a linux distro thing. I have grub2 when I choose to reboot. when it cycles back to the part where it is suppse to show on the screen that grub is starting up it just hangs with a white mark on the left side of the screen, and that's it.

I was having this same problem with Debain and grub2 and I am now experiencing the very same thing with Void and grub2.

# grub-install -v
grub-install (GRUB) 2.00

does anyone know what might cause this and how to rectify it?
