Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

Can't help you, I do use dwm and the ONLY thing I know about dwm - is the initials - don't even know what the "d" is and I'm assuming the wm is "window manager"

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

^ Dumb wm? lol but that is just me guessing ... though perhaps you can satisfy my thoughts on window ownership if it is set to own window type it makes it its own window therefore it will be as if it is a window (duha) so to get it to stop from tiliting it needs to be made not part of the windowing system so setting it false should do the trick?

EDIT: @userx-bw: ask chameleon, s/he created a dwm-based distribution that has a conky on the "desktop".

Or maybe download the ISO and look at the .conkyrc & config.h

The sourceforge.net website is temporarily in static offline mode.
Only a very limited set of project pages are available until the main website returns to service.

as you can see sourceforge is still down, if and when it comes back up I'll try to find this post to get that link to give it a look see

Yes that's me, unfortunately i can not change my user name at deviant art and since people started to link to the skin i figured i will keep the account.

edit: it's a shame i had to use a Screeenlet for the audio spectrum meter... porting it to conky should be easy but resources seem a problem according to wlouf's attempt sad If (doubt it) i find the time i will make an attempt for porting it myself.

If mrpeachy can get something like this maybe there is a way to convert it to music.  Unfortunately his link to this post doesn't work and the links in that post no longer work  sad

mrpeachy's The Peachy Blog - scroll down a bit.

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

So I got Busen Labs installed and up and running, yay!

I've been doing some work on one of my older conky's.

That being said, the code is not pretty. It's from way, way back when I was getting started and I am sure some of you (Sector11) will cringe when looking at it. I have named it "Rainbow Conky"

There are a few minor issues I am having and would like some help:

1. Calender formatting - Why is the first date messed up?
2. Weather formatting - Yeah, im using teh 1a script from here. It doesn't look pretty
3. CPU formatting -  where it says CORE 0 etc, they shift around a bit. Run the conky and open a video, you'll see what I mean
4. CPU formatting #2 - I'd like to add my CPU Fan RPM's here. But since I'm not running the same distro I was earlier in the thread, I don't know where to start.

Other than that, I quite like this conky. I think it's very "colorful." cool

EDIT: I added some battery info, and figured out the CPU Fan speed. Now I need help trimming to to just report "xxxx RPM"

EDIT: I posted the fix for CPU fan speed I found in a separate post. Poor form. Edited post. Here is the info:

Sonofa....try this for the CPU fan speed:

${exec sensors | grep 'RPM'}

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

Temetka wrote:

That being said, the code is not pretty. It's from way, way back when I was getting started and I am sure some of you (Sector11) will cringe when looking at it. I have named it "Rainbow Conky"

cool  Rainbow Conky - no cringing here - reminds me of a few of my early ones.
Like this old monster: Sep_09.jpg

There are a few minor issues I am having and would like some help:

1. Calender formatting - Why is the first date messed up?
2. Weather formatting - Yeah, im using teh 1a script from here. It doesn't look pretty
3. CPU formatting -  where it says CORE 0 etc, they shift around a bit. Run the conky and open a video, you'll see what I mean
4. CPU formatting #2 - I'd like to add my CPU Fan RPM's here. But since I'm not running the same distro I was earlier in the thread, I don't know where to start.

2015_08_03_23_15_11_Scrot11.jpg

1.  Can't find the "Vera San Mono" font you used so I simply changed all calls of that to "Mono" and the calendar falls right into place.  You MUST use a mono font for that calendar.

2. I use the same weather script so I can help with that as well.  But have no idea what you want it to looks like.
- I would put the "font icons" on the left then the info like this: 2015_08_03_23_57_18_Scrot11.jpg

3. Your CPU Core info shifts around a bit because you used ${alignc} and 9% uses less space than 10% hense the move.  ${goto 60} looks really good there.  big_smile

4. Fan Speeds ... Bunsen comes with lm-sensors installed.  Check this out. - METHOD 3 - it will give you a lot of things to play with.  Did I mention METHOD 3?  You can even get volts. Did I mention METHOD 3?

Anyway here's your conky now: 2015_08_04_00_14_16_Scrot11.jpg

And cleaned up a bit.

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

Boom! Once again, you sir are the man.

Thank you so much.

WRT to the CPU bars moving, yeah I figured I'd have to use a goto statement instead of ${align x}. It hit me at work today. You beat me to it. smile

The weather looks exactly how I wanted it.

I also reduced the wifi signal bar by 25 pixels and it looks much better.

Well I realize we had this working in my previous conky, so all I had to do was look back a few posts.

With a minor change on the paths I got this:

${color8}CPU Fan Speed: ${color5}${execi 2 cat /sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_hwmon/fan1_input}${color} RPM

I also increased the font size of the weather icons and adjusted the text spacing.

Everything is working lovely now. Thanks again for your help.

Intel, so not 100% sure on this but I don't think you need the "_input" in /fan1_input.

${color8}CPU Fan Speed: ${color5}${execi 2 cat /sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_hwmon/fan 1}${color} RPM

Basically EVERYTHING in /sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_hwmon/ with an "_input" ending can be added to conky.
I don't use the _input as I get (NULL) response

Mine with "alias sensen='sensors ; inxi -s'"
- sensors tells me values
- inxi -s - tells me what + value (match value with sensors and BINGO)

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

Sector 11:

If I could get you to help me out one more time.

I've been playing with the other conky you rebuilt, the one with the circles. I have everything looking how I would like, except the weather. Ideally I would like the weather icons to be 28pt font with that weather info next to each font. As you can see from the screenshot below, it's not like that. I could have sworn I had a backup of this (which I do, just not the latest version).

No problem.  Try this one ... NOTE - not using ARGB transparenct but using the draw-bg.lua that comes with BunsenLabs. (Better control of window size)

Change the "20" to "0" in this line:

lua_draw_hook_pre draw_bg 20 0 0 0 0 0x000000 0.25

if you do not want rounded corners.  See: ~/.config/conky/LUA/draw-bg.lua for instructions on use.

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

Humble greetings oh great and wise conky/lua Gurus ... Masters, one has come seeking Wisdom ... Enlightenment ... oh, and shoes that don't pinch my toes, please.

Anyway, I ran into something, I just can't seem to figure out: Just how often does conky update per update? (And, yeah, I know it sound nuts.)

Background:
I had to re-do an old version of a network monitor I used to have in conky/lua, nothing special, just a simple visualization of network traffic. Starting out, I quickly ran into a strange mangling of the data I pulled into my lua script from conky: apparently every value turned up twice in my table of raw values.

So, I set out to find my mistake, after all, it had to be an obvious one, right ... nada. I stripped the script down ... bubkus. I weeded out my conky config ... ziltsch. I actually re-installed conky and lua ... nix. In the end, I had reduced everything to the following two bare-bones versions:

# conky configuration - barebones.conky

update_interval 1
total_run_times 0

lua_load /home/nat/bin/conky/scripts/barebones.lua
lua_draw_hook_post main

TEXT
-- LUA script - barebones.lua

function conky_main()
  if not counter then
     counter = 0
     print ("counter - updates - second ")
  end
  counter = counter + 1
  updates = tonumber(conky_parse('${updates}'))

  print ( counter, " - ", updates," - ", conky_parse('${time %S}'))

end

... which gives the sample shell output shown below ...

nat@nestor:~/bin/conky$ conky -c ./barebones.conky
counter - updates - second
1 - 0 - 34
2 - 0 - 34
3 - 1 - 34
4 - 1 - 34
5 - 2 - 35
6 - 2 - 35
7 - 3 - 36
8 - 3 - 36
9 - 4 - 37
10 - 4 - 37
11 - 5 - 38
12 - 5 - 38
13 - 6 - 39
14 - 6 - 39
15 - 7 - 40
16 - 7 - 40

According to 'update_interval 1' in the config, conky is supposedly supposed to update once per second ... a glance at the timer column 'second' throws that one under the bus. Moreover, for each update--see 'update' column--there are apparently two actual, distinct runs of the lua script--see 'counter' column (ignoring the initial four runs as a start-up hick-up, for now). This isn't a simple glitch, now is it.

Can anyone explain this to me as though I'm a four-year old, please? I mean, a work-around is simple enough, but this 'double-calling' shouldn't occur in the first place.

And remember, the stepping stones that make the path to one's true self are the pearls of wisdom selflessly strewn before the ignorant ... or something like that  ;-)

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

I think this might be a conky 1.9 issue, i've ran your config on both conky 1.9 and 1.10:

Conky 1.9 (same output as yours):

counter - updates - second
1 - 0 - 35
2 - 0 - 35
3 - 1 - 35
4 - 1 - 35
5 - 2 - 36
6 - 2 - 36
7 - 3 - 37
8 - 3 - 37
9 - 4 - 38
10 - 4 - 38
11 - 5 - 39
12 - 5 - 39
13 - 6 - 40
14 - 6 - 40
15 - 7 - 41
16 - 7 - 41

Conky 1.10:

counter - updates - second
1 - 0 - 29
2 - 1 - 29
3 - 2 - 30
4 - 3 - 31
5 - 4 - 32
6 - 5 - 33
7 - 6 - 34
8 - 7 - 35
9 - 8 - 36
10 - 9 - 37

I did not test it on conky 1.9.1 which contains a number of bug fixes, but i don't know this is one of them (you can find 1.9.1 here: Conky 1.9.1)

edit: note the 2 updates on the start for  second 29 on conky 1.10

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

iami ... thank you for your swift response. I've just tried with conky 1.9.1 and got a result similar to your 1.10 try ...

counter - updates - second
1 - 0 - 34
2 - 1 - 34
3 - 2 - 35
4 - 3 - 36
5 - 4 - 37
6 - 5 - 38
7 - 6 - 39
8 - 7 - 40
9 - 8 - 41
10 - 9 - 42

So it appears the newer version sorted it out, aside from the initial 'short' run 0-update happening within the same time frame as the 1-update ... just faster during initialization?

Tanks a lot for your help, Master ... I've been Enligthended big_smile
