Re: RELEASED: BunsenLabs 8.1 (Hydrogen) Live ISO (alpha)

Will Bunsen Labs ISOs have file-based USB persistence as is common with all Ubuntu variations, DebianDog and other Puppy distros, Porteus and even Android X86? If so, what will be the parameters needed in isolinux.cfg entries?

Thanks! There have been private discussions, of course, but most of the development has been out in the open on GitHub. The suddenness of this ISO is only due to me crash-course learning live-build, pushing out several test ISOs, ending up with something good enough to start with and ramming out the announcement in under a week without a full vote (neither damo nor pvsage have discussed the ISO so far).

Sue me. I want to get... this... train... rolling...

The crash course worked just fine. It's a excellent build. More than just something to start with. But obviously, you will not be able to make the final build until all decisions are written in stone,  in regards to defaults and things that should be included in this project. But clearly, everyone can relax as far as the live-cd is concerned. It won't be a issue. The project depends on other stuff.

You'll have to investigate that on your own for now, sorry.

Torrent for alpha1-32bit hybrid:

bl-Hydrogen-alpha1-i386.hybrid.iso.torrent -- please keep seeding for a short while.

amd64 is to be released on Thursday or Friday. If the next test build should happen to be ready by that time, it will be released as 32bit and 64bit simultaneously 'cause weekend equals more time.

DL then 2 VB install check out

I'll keep it in seeds every time My Deluge is up and running, which is quite often btw smile

Dude, it's a Live image. Download the torrent, dd or cp the thing to USB and see if it boots. If it does, you can use it.

Well, sure I do get that. But wont I be able to use 4 GB of ram only with 32 bit? I'm really bad with all that hardware stuff. But anyway, thanks for answering. I don't want to annoy you further.

Re: RELEASED: BunsenLabs 8.1 (Hydrogen) Live ISO (alpha)

it has a pae and a setting to pick i586 too I am already installing it in Virtualbox under i586. I only have 4GB ram that reads under 4, something like 3.xxx GB

you'd just have to figure out how to get pae on your system is all.

annoy? not me -- I could not get pae either so I used i586 and tried that and it is installing just for look see purposes in VirtualBox

that's Friday right or do you do Saturdays as EOW on your system as compared to EOF  ?? hehe wink

oh the i586 install on virtualbox blew up on rebooting after install,, don't know why but deleted it and going to do it again to see what I see

I prob didn't have proper setting on my end even though I installed it under 32bit, I am doing like 3 things at a time right now so VB not top priority

Re: RELEASED: BunsenLabs 8.1 (Hydrogen) Live ISO (alpha)

Make sure to check the ISO's integrity. In a terminal, cd to the directory containing the ISO and...

md5sum bl-Hydrogen-alpha1-i386.hybrid.iso

Then compare the generated hash to the one in the provided md5 file.

Re: RELEASED: BunsenLabs 8.1 (Hydrogen) Live ISO (alpha)

ah HA! it was just trying to start up in pae mode in VirtualBox it seems maybe that is the default install of the ISO.

if yes than is that a good thing if it is?

If the person has to run it as a non-pae in live how is he or she to install it in the same manner if it is installing in pae mode by default?

I know this is a VIrtualbox install so I don't fully understand everything going on with it. In how it reads the iso to install it as pae. if it sends it a message telling it to or not ...

I just changed the settings in VirtualBox to simulate pae in setting now it is up and loading as I write this ..

Both kernels get installed when you install to disk. Just go to "Advanced options for BunsenLabs GNU/LInux" in your new grub screen and choose the 586 kernel. When your sure everything's OK, you can remove the other kernel (and the 586 will become default)...

hhh@alpha:~$ sudo apt-get purge linux-image-3.16.0-4-686-pae

Run dpkg -l to see what the kernels in the ISO are (in the future). I'll make an edit to the announcement post to clarify this.

I already said that bl-welcome is broken in this build and how to upgrade to the fixed version. Re-read the relevant post, run bl-welcome when your new packages are built and open a new support thread if you still have problems.
