@Sector11: Thank you for clarifying (News Plus) comments, personally stay away from the forum because it is getting quite ridiculous with hostile comments, it is evident that there are those who are not engaging the brain with their keyboard. More often jumping to conclusions about a given comment without themselves knowing the facts, an attempt to discredit the commenter would be the only reasoning. This is not the forum that I remember to search for ideas, news, or just see what is going on with the CrunchBang distro. I think we all should and be better to each other, at least make it a point to look at the comment first in a positive mind, than to be offensive. Needless to say that i fully agree with you. That would be my choice too... Easing up on the formalities and policies, and just release something that looks awesome and functions well. But that's just me.

It takes 1 hour to build a distro, but it takes a team 6 months to a year, just to please the anal policies and requirements from Debian.

I'm happy if someone does it, but I sure as h... wouldn't be teaming up with Debian myself.

I have to say I disagree. Debian is typically criticised for this that or the other. However, remove Debian and watch Ubuntu and Linux Mint and all the other beneficiaries come tumbling down.

Debian isn't simply distro x that has policy y - x is largely attributable to policy y. CrunchBang and clones are all built on top of Debian. While not being in the project can give you freedom to do your thing (Debian even explicitly recognises this need) getting a DE that resembles CB into Debian should not be beyond the realms of the possible. Having it included with all the sugar that CB came with (non-free elements) would be hard but in any case is not necessary, since a non-incorporated spin could add those elements.

In any case Debian is an integrator of upstream components. So building "it" upstream of Debian and worrying about including it in Debian later is also an option.

In general, I enjoy structure, standards, and documentation, as long as the structure and standards make sense and the documentation is good.

Yes, slightly ironic. But I actually pretty much tend to do a bit of qualified guesswork, and if it doesn't work, I guess again. I'm not a big consumer of documentation. In my mind, just about everything should be so intuitive that you don't need to read a manual or a wiki to be able to use it. Whats wrong with guessing until you get it right? You learn a lot more that way. I only read documentation if I'm on a deadline and need to solve something really fast. If I have the time to figure it out myself, then I always prefer to do just that.

To be serious, I'm not opposed to documentation when it's needed and have a purpose. And if it isn't already documented elsewhere...

Firstly, it's probably quicker to just read the fine manual.

Secondly, what if the solution you chance upon is actually just a work-aound and causes more problems later on?

Nah.. I exaggerate a little bit. I always like to present a caricatured version of the real me. But to be honest, my memory skills are quite good when it comes to technical stuff and things that are important to me. Have I ever read it, seen it, or experienced it, then I tend to remember it. That's probably why I'm not all that into structure and documentation, because I don't need it for myself. I can store pretty much everything in my head.

But don't worry, I'm still not able to find the car keys on my own, and much less the keys to that plane

I have used many different Linux flavors but #! was the best of all, smoothest, and fastest of all, minimal but had everything required in it.
