live-build is very VERY complex...can be finicky...and a tough nut to crack when something isnt working...
it use to change like every day, hopefully developement changes have slowed nowadays
the complexity, changes, and my trouble with it is probably the biggest reason I created refracta actually
just sayin
Nope. Still changing. And what worked yesterday, doesn't work today. The latest change for me is that the debian-installer/partman doesn't offer ext2,3 or 4 as options during manual partioning. I've struggled with this for a few days now. Another bug that has been there for a while, is that the installer fails at reformatting an existing ext4-partion if the partition holds a grub... It's a easy fix. They need to add the force parameter. But even if it's a known bug, with a solution, they never get around to fix it. https://www.mail-archive.com/debian-bug … 84945.html
Adding the force parameter is something that I had to do for remastersys months ago. I figured it out then. It's very strange that it isn't fixed in live-build for Jessie... Well, there is always something

@tknomanzr - Well done!
There is a bug in lightdm relating to dependency xserver-xorg, for me it manifests itself when I added the video driver packages. The build worked and so did the install, but it booted to a command-line. Lightdm failed to start.

I haven't run into that one yet. I do run into a bug with systemd not setting up for an ati backlight properly. I need to think about how I can mask systemd's default when the ATI backlight driver is present. This issue would be brutal to a new user, so I feel it deserves to be documented. In fact, I am almost certain it is what Inodoro was running into a couple of months ago.
I am going to do one more build to sort my config issues and missing packages, then call that build stable enough for me to move forward.
Addendum:
I do remember seeing this in the logs
Looking at the logs indicated that dbus' inability to find service org.freedesktop.Accounts
so I will double check how I am pulling xorg stuff in. I can say the machine did boot to a fully configured desktop, however.

My build worked fine. Issue solved. The other issue I had with no ext-partions being offered during partitions was a result of my stupid decition to add syslinux in addition to isolinux. I removed syslinux, and everything was fine. Stupid me, and this has bugged me for a week, and the solution was so simple. Way to simple
Well well, the simplest solutions are often the hardest to see

Work continues. Polishing, taking notes. I think I have figured out most of the dependency issues from no-install-recommends for this stage. I grabbed a bunch of hydrogen cloud pics from NASA and built a simple little python script to change em up every so often via conky. I need to round it out some more but my knowledge of python is fairly limited, so it will take some time. I am going to try this weekend to figure out an EFI build. I have unofficially decided to name my little spin the WTFbox. Why? Well Im pretty sure you have figured out it is pretty much whatever I want it to be ay any given moment. I am thinking about using an image of Lemarchand's box for the icon in LightDM. Being back in the realm of 15 minute installs is refreshing. 8o

Yes, we've all been there. Messing with configs and stuff for days, and then the solution turns out to be so simple. Right in front of us. The nice about that is of course that we get to dig way deep into stuff that we never would have touched otherwise
My next project now is simply to get ready for some fun when the floodgates open. So I prepared myself by installing my own build on another partition, the full version(tweak-obf), and upgraded it to Sid. Everything upgraded fine, so now Debian, please open the gates...
I'm going out of dev/build-mode, and into play-mode for a while. Me against the packages that comes into Sid from experimental. I'm so excited I can hardly wait. Because right now, Sid isn't any fun at all
