Here is an annoying problem. A couple of applications such as File Roller and Vivaldi fire up RawTherapee when they are meant to call a file manager to duty. How do they come up with such an idea? How do I correct such behavior?
TIA

Try checking /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache and search for inode/directory, I'll bet rawtherapee.desktop (or similar) is listed first. If so, copy the cache file to ~/.local/share/applications and edit out that desktop entry, then reboot or update your cache.

Spot on!
I found a line in /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache with a faulty reference to rawtherapee.desktop. I copied this line into ~/.local/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache and removed the reference to rawtherapee.desktop. I have rebooted and the problem is gone.
Thanks

Right on. I had this problem after installing easytag, it did the same thing. You can edit the mimeinfo.cache file in /usr/share/applications too in order to prevent the same thing happening when you're root, but that might get overwritten with upgrades. Hence copying it to your home directory/user account, where it won't be overwritten and where you'll be 99.9% of the time.
