Hi! Finally now my PCs with CrunchBang are working with success.
But I've a simple question. A curiosity...
Why my QuadCore Laptop (i7-3630QM) has 8 differents CPUs such you can see in this picture?
Thanks very much!
P.S. I'm sorry for my terrible english!
Best explanation:
Because of Hyperthreading. Intel has a feature called Hyperthreading on some of its CPUs that lets them run 2 threads per CPU at once under some conditions. If you ran windows 7 on your computer, it would tell you that you have 4 physical cores and 4 logical cores.
You can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyper-threading

Your Quad core has 8 threads because i7's are hyperthreaded. that's why.
It's still just a quad core though.

Sorry about that. I accidentally posted my password in IRC and I had the same password set here so they changed my signature.

Your i7 uses Hyperthreading -- each cores can run 2 "threads"
EDIT: Ninja'd -- damn internet connection...

Now that I think about it... This question could've EASILY been googled.

If anyone is going to ask a legit newbie question, let it be: How do I use google?

Ok! Ok! Thanks for first questions! First of all @Different55

If I don't know the threads, how could I search "threads" and "Hyperthreading"? 8)
Anyway thanks! Now I read the Hyperthreading documentation!
Bye!

The problem is that if you're new to all this, you often don't know what terms to use in your search.

Thank you, "your" particular attitude is truly appreciated. Thought for a moment, I was reading a Debian thread. Been a long time user of #! and lurker here... As is functionally true with most of life, there's never a stupid question but only overly and overtly arrogant answers.
Again, your response was appreciated.

I see nothing wrong with your question. So I have a one for you. :)
Does lmsensors see the "8 cores" as well?
Why not pop over to The New Monster Conky Thread and share yours. :D

A HUGE +1 to you three. I must have worn anonymous out with my questions when I first joined the forums. He and omns certainly are missed. That's the nicest thing about these forums, we at CrunchBang have a reputation of helping people. Lets keep it up.
