A lot of the spam posts read like text created by a William S. Burroughs-style "Cut-Up" technique: from a literary perspective, I like them

The point of deleting them is to get rid of the "key words" that spam-bots look for. By 'quoting' the text you are keeping the "key words" active in the #! Forums which is what we are fighting to eliminate.

It's the equivalent of:

removing your tin-foil hat
punching a bunch of holes in your tin-foil hat or - and this is worse
spraying the forums with SpamSent®

I see no reason why screenshots can't be used, but it seems a waste of time and space (opinion) ... mind you as an exercise in how not to write a post in a particular language or Alien Poetry maybe!

Well, no ... not necessarily.

Example.

A person: Bob - signs up at XYZ forum.
Puts in his sig: Bob's Plumbing Call 555-1234
Puts in his website: www . bob_plumbing . com

And posts a very well worded post about the advantages of using Bob's Plumbing over other plumbing services. That's human spam - and that single post here: Spam

Some checking shows that he has done this on 50 other forums. bob[at]bobs_plumbing[dot]com is a spammer

Then comes the bots: I just Searched for:

spam bot key words

... and the first hit: Twitter Spam Bots Target NFL and Miley Cyrus Fans some of the other links that came up are interesting as well.

Read Wikipedia's article about search engine optimization as stated in pvsages's post that Unia quoted and it's becomes apparent why the "Alien Poems" help spam-bots.

And in that case, yes, the presence of SPAM begets more SPAM

all of the above is a noob's understanding of how things work. Because I am really not into it much deeper than this. But I do remember "key words" from my website creation days in the 90's and their importance.

Today we have so far jumped up two SPAMCON levels (at level three right now ) and yet I have only seen four SPAM posts. The moderators are doing a pixel-speed-exceedingly good job!

EDIT: Probably just has something to do with the counter resetting at midnight, local time (time zones & all)

Now at SPAMCON 4 after a burst of at least five confirmed SPAM (Again, great job faster-than-pixel-ultra-1337-SPAM-squad-Mods ) Yep, total SPAM that event is confirmed at five, daily count at GMT-5 is holding at 7 for now
