have packard bell easy note laptop #! is installed but wont play video on you tube etc have checked that the sis graphic card driver is install which it is. Am not sure where to go from here
thanks for reply yes i sort of understand what flash is but am not sure how to extract or run the program I was not certain of which version of flash i needed. I have downloaded a flash file onto the laptop. I am only really wanting the laptop set up to browse the web.
everything I need seems to be working, I can browse the web but not play any video. I've checked the graphic card, a sis one and appear to have the correct driver installed. When I get to a web page containing any video there is a blank space in the page
Have a search in Synaptic - there are various possibilities in the repositories, including flashplugin-nonfree
...in other words, install flashplugin-nonfree.
it might solve your problem.
unlike windows, linux uses packet management - so your way to install (software) packages is through a packet manager, and NOT by downloading files from your browser interface.
synaptic is a packet managing app and has a graphical user interface.
you can also achieve the same by typing:
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
in a terminal.

used the terminal command from 'Die Hard' and am told that flashplugin non free set to manally installed. Being total newb not sure how to manually install or how to automate the install
thanks for your continued help
hello New Member,
please post the content of the terminal window where you issued "sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree".
found flashplugin in the packet manager it hasn't got that sun like symbol next to the green square, is this significant?
So you already have it installed
PS If you copy and paste your terminal output between code tags then it is easier for us to read and scroll through
Have you restarted?

restarted but the problem not resolved, is it possilble that too many video packages have been installed, a friend helping me recently seemed to installing a great many packages from repositries? thanks for the help
getting flash video to work in a browser should be trivial - it should even work ootb on a new #! install.
so the next obvious question is ...what did your friend do to your system?
i guess it's got something to do with your sis graphics?
(others: could this affect how flash works? honestly i don't think so. could it have to do with hardware accel?)
go to iceweasel preferences, advanced tab, and change the state of "Use hardware acceleration when available".
worth a shot.

Break, break, break,
On thy cold gray stones, o sea!
And I would that my tongue could utter
The thoughts that arise in me.
partial sucess loaded chrome browser and Youtube video playback sort of worked, a bit of a judder. BBC iplayer not working asking for Shockwave plugin. Went to adobe and got four linux choices, YUM for linux, tar.gz, .rpm and APT for ubunto. Which one do you think I need?
