You gotta give the guys at eOs this: they are pretty damn well planned when it comes to a singular UX experience and pretty charming too.

A kernel as old as Wheezy's ! Where were the checksums? I found some for the beta but of course they didn't work.

being the good distrohopper that i am i installed it today and after a day of playing with i can say it really is a nice distro. some minor problems so far are less responsive than #!, after only one day some of those nice native applications started to freeze, music player is shutting down occasionaly, but overall i like it. We will see how long before i become fed up wit it and 'll be back to #! as always

I was using it up in Utah. It's a solid UBUderiv.
Pack em in snow!

Ok I kinda gotta know: "using it up in Utah" is that a euphemism or where you actually in the state of Utah when you last used it?

Websites lack any details !
Looks like it might run Xfce.
Evidently, Ubuntu underneath.
Not for me !!!

downloading. last time I ran the beta off usb I found it a nice little distro, and my mother liked it when she saw it. Most certainly this did not happen in Utah. but anyway, if it runs stable anough, it might be something for her.

I agree, also the "donation request" is a bit too invasive for my taste: you have to look for the "free download button" when, in my opinion, you should be looking for the donate button if you think the OS is worth it (after having downloaded and tried it)...

well, since the free download button is right under it, I dont care so much. invasive would be something like pop-ups during usage

Elementary OS does not use XFCE. Elementary uses Gala as its windows manager and Elementary has its own DE shell known as Pantheon with its own application set. Pantheon is based on but much lighter and faster than GTK/Gnome.

what a pity they did not include flash support OOTB but the first thing they show you on their starting website is a video..
but no problem.. lets hit the support button... nice, a FAQ that is easy to read cause it fits on one half screen.
Q: Does elementary have a Forum?
A: I think the elementary team feels like the social community tools (Google+, Facebook, etc) and the Answers section on the website are sufficient for users support, while developers can use the Developer section of the website, or IRC chat. I personally agree, and can't find a thing a forum can do that the current tools cannot. But it's only my opinion obviously.
okay. so our anonymous site maintainer has his thoughts about what the rest of the team feels about how support should work. cool!
guess I will download the plugin from adobe. oops. doesnt work.
well, ok, I take the software center.. oh, flashplugin for mozilla.. installation failed....
nice. I am running midori anyway
well, lets head over to facebook or google+ and use their excellent search function for support on either of those places...
serious? o_O
but hey, apart from no support and missing media plugins, at least it looks really good.
too bad, I had quite high hopes this would come out as something cool.
I think I better dont give this OS to my mother.. /

I've downloaded but not yet tried Elementary Luna.
Couldn't you just install Google Chrome? It has built-in flash support that works better than plugins.
Alternatively, would this work?
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

of course I could have installed something else. But I wanted to just try their product as it came, like the average joe, with their browser of choice and how they designed it in order to attract non-techie users, as they even write it on their site. sadly the product did not work on their own there ootb. too bad. - but still, it is fast and has nice styling, really.
Apart from that, I won't discuss my elementary problems on the crunchbang forum, I will visit theirs.. oh, oops.

Hmm, I have some thoughts: My slight mod of #! is nicer looking, probably faster and makes a lot more sense and it did not took me 3 years to get it done (I should probably make a video review).
p.s. I'd change a thread title from "Long awaited Elementary Luna release date August 10" to "Luna is out" or "moon-walking" or something more appropriate.

The thread title is just fine.
I will note that I find Fanbois, whether Apple, Windoze, or even CB to be boringly predictable and quite similar.
Thanks for your opinion.

Nicer looking? Personal. Probably faster. Makes more sense how? Didn't take you three years, because you did not develop your own frameworks and applications.
Please, don't be such a fanboy.

@Unia @NewCityVegas, fanboy, seriously? When I decided to start popping in here again VastOne mentioned these forums had become a different place, so in the spirit of your new found attitude to community -
"CrunchBang CrunchBang rar rar rar. It is the best, chuck out the rest" "I use OS X and Jobs was a god"
All harmless nouns, adjectives and verbs that mean nothing in the scheme of things. Truly, get over yourselves and smell the roses...

You're right, I might have responded a bit too harsh.
On the other hand, he hardly gave any constructive criticism or elaborated on his points plus I think his tone is almost disrespectful to the project. If you don't like their software, at least you can praise them for their continious effort that started from scratch. There's not many projects that stick to it and deliver on their promise!
And, honestly, what's wrong with a bit of discussion on here? Ever since rhowaldt and the gang split of, you guys have been trying (almost) too hard to keep things friendly.

Between the two quotes, brontosaurusrex's was far more benign and was not directed at anyone but himself
Seems it's about time to get over the 'you guys are doing this' BS. We all know the history and it is what it is. There has been micro amounts of needed moderation (from a moderators perspective) and people are getting along.
Are you suggesting that flaming someone is part of the etiquette of CrunchBang?

I'm not going to have this argument for everyone's sake. If you feel the need to talk with me, send me a PM.
Please get back on topic now, move along, nothing to see {)
