Looking for a new laptop.

Hey, *
My current Toshiba laptop is getting a bit long in the tooth, so it's time to start looking for a replacement.
Any suggestions? I know I'm not going to find one without UEFI, but one that could be easily disabled would be nice.
I've owned Acer and Toshiba in the past, and they've given years of good service, but... Has anyone bought a machine in the recent past and thought, "man, this thing was made with Linux in mind."
I know there are shops out there that only make Linux machines (System76 for example), but they tend to be higher than I can easily afford.
Thanks for your input, in advance.  8o

Re: Looking for a new laptop.

It's a tough call if you're trying to find something non-UEFI at a good price. I know that System 76 and ZaReason cost more and that's an issue with some people (and rightfully so; it would be for me as well).  Have you considered buying something used, but "not too used," if you know what I mean? I keep seeing Lenovo ThinkPad T400 series laptops on eBay for around $200.

Just a thought.

Dell has a laptop with Ubuntu preinstalled but I don't know how good it works in general.

for a looong list of linux vendors.  Just ignore the server and support links.

Re: Looking for a new laptop.

I bought a Samsung laptop earlier this year and is pretty faultless tbh. Good price to features ratio, feels nice and solid, comfy keyboard, nice clear monitor (even in bright sunlight).

Took a bit of buggering about to turn off the secure boot gubbins, but it was doable.

Highly recommended.

Re: Looking for a new laptop.

I too am in the market for a new laptop. I broke my trusty, circa-2008, crunchified HP Pavilion dv6000 (somehow) by taking off the bottom to clean out the fan. Now I'm using a Dell D600 from 2003ish, but it's not very powerful at all. I have two of them, and they make nice IRC servers, but aren't good for web browsing at all.
