Cool video.  The comments below it are comical.

Re: #! on /.

I swear to God, Tim Lord (the videographer) said he had his 50-pounds-less lens on the video camera. big_smile

Thanks, guys. I would like to hope someday I can stop from being periodically tongue-tied as the tape is rolling, and the hands thing -- I'm of Italian ancestry, there's nothing I can do about that. But I hope I represented CrunchBang well and I'm open to suggestions to what else I (and anyone else) should say about #!

th3pun15h3r and everyone else: If you can get to a Linux show, you should go.

(Yes, mbemboom, the comments are pretty laughable.)

Re: #! on /.

Now that you mentioned it, Lord should actually do some (serious) reading on mics/lights and DOF in general before doing its next videography, thats a pretty terrible approach to portrait (I think focus is actually on that back-door for example). The clip is still amazing thought smile

Re: #! on /.

Cool, th3pun15h3r -- keep us posted.

I keep threatening -- er, promising -- to write a how-to about "How to Promote CrunchBang at Linux Events," and I should get on that. In the meantime, anyone who feels like going to a Linux event and signing up for a table (or submit proposals during various Linux events Call for Papers to talk about CrunchBang) -- heck, even proposing to talk about CrunchBang at your local LUG -- should give it a shot. I'm an old hand at this from doing it for years for Fedora in my pre-CrunchBang days, so I can help you out.

Re: #! on /.

Mr. Lcafiero, thanks for taking the time to go and represent a distro that you obviously feel passionate about.  I believe that you did a fantastic job of representing #!, because you seemed to keep smiling the whole time you explained what Crunchbang is all about.

I enjoyed the video.

Re: #! on /.

+1 to what DebianJoe said.  I've showed my friends but one of them is a mac user and another is a windows system/network admin...so ya....  But one of them wants a raspberry pi there is always pibang which can brign them to the source smile

Re: #! on /.

One thought regarding pitching #!:

Emphasis is usually on how light on HW resources #! is.

Another thing is aesthetics. One guy's eye-candy is another guy's eye-sore. Linux is all about freedom of choice and here you get a visually minimalistic user interface. This appeals to me and I am not surprised to find that I am not the only font/typography geek hanging out here. Aesthetics aside there are some practical benefits of having a grey-scale desktop when working with photos and images. Your colour vision is not biased by the gaudy colour scheme of your desk top. You should be careful about the colour scheme and lightning in the room as well but that is beyond any distro maker's powers to influence.

Just my tuppence,

/Martin

I have not checked out Waldorf yet so maybe this isn't valid any more :-)

^ Absolutely!  I see the default very-slightly-bluish gray as a blank canvas, on which the user is encouraged to put whatever he wants.

Re: #! on /.

I would agree with pvsage and I usually make this point when I give talks about CrunchBang -- #! is a blank canvas with which you can do whatever you want.

Re: #! on /.

Another thought, came up in the comments of the video, but it could come up as an interview question:

Why not just install Debian and set-up openbox?

Crunchbang is presumably aimed at an intermediate level user who is willing to try something new, but doesn't yet know how to configure it properly on his own.  Given openbox's depth of configuration options, having these preconfigured and made easily discoverable help that intermediate level user advance to the next stage of complexity, so that he might be able to "just install Debian and set-up openbox" later.

Re: #! on /.

sqlpython: exactly.  I actually came to Crunchbang because it was a better done configuration of Openbox than I could manage on my own.  I originally was posting on these forums from LMDE + Openbox.

Re: #! on /.

@orionthehunter
I agree 110%.. While I have my own Wheezy/Openbox. I also have a Waldorf installed..
The Wheezy/Openbox actually predates my first 10/2011 Statler install as I was running this Testing.
I just kept it up.
