I followed instructions on wiki.debian.org/brcm80211
Used directions for Wheezy and adding a non-free component to sources.list worked fine. apt-get install firmware-brcm80211 wireless-tools I think worked fine. I thought it didn't the first time so I tried it again and it said it was up to date. However, step 3 caused me issues as I tried modprobe by typing sudo modprobe -r brcmsmac ; modprobe brcmsmac it says could not insert ;brcmscma;: Operation not permitted.
Also, I blacklisted bcma and some others when I was following another guide but can't find the link for that now.
at first I thought you were giving me the same wiki page I linked as what I followed but this is a little different. Just wondering, what is the difference between the two?
edit- yea still not working, I followed the Debian Installation for "Wheezy." What happens is that the wireless networks in my area show up and when I try to connect it asks for the password. However after I enter in the password it never connects. Then every 2 minutes or so I get asked for the password to the network again but it never actually connects.

It does that when the connection is not configured right.
Are you sure WPA/WEP is configured the same on both sides of the connection - PC and router. Password is correct - case is important!
oh wowwwwwwwwww. It was my password the whole time. Thank you for sticking through the whole time despite my noobishness. Looking forward to learning more about crunchbang and linux in general!
