[SOLVED] Samsung NF210 Brightness not working

I have a Samsung NF210 and while the Fn-Brightness keys are registering (that is the brightness pop-up with the amount of brightness bar is showing and changing) the actual brightness is not changing. Volume works fine.

I have tried adding

to grub as suggested by another post with a similar, but not exact, laptop. However that didn't work.  It has worked with very recent versions of Fedora and Ubuntu, but in fairness overall many distros have problems with this particular laptop.

Any tips on troubleshooting or solving this issue?

Thanks much!

Re: [SOLVED] Samsung NF210 Brightness not working

I wanted to let you know I found the solution to this problem, and it was very easy!

All you need to do to get the backlight working with a Samsung NF210 in Crunchbang, or any Debian Wheezy system is to edit (as root) /etc/default/grub:

sudo vi /etc/default/grub

and add "acpi_backlight=vendor" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT so it looks like:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet acpi_backlight=vendor"

Then just update grub:

sudo update-grub

Reboot and your backlight adjustments will work!
