Just got a message that adobe offers free downloads of Creative Suite CS2. yay!?
Since atleast Photoshop CS2 has Gold Status with Wine, this is interesting for us Linuxers as well. The rest of the suite seems not to work with Wine, but you dont need to install everything anyway. Downloadsite is pretty crashy or busy though. You need to create an Adobe ID before download.
edit 8.1.2013:
they disabled even the Adobe Id thing. And it is PS CS2 without camera RAW functions. - but it seems they ment it as a service to registered users - see some posts below. Still its a public link. I removed the link from this, cause I am not sure if they really want everyone to download it or not but the link is ALL OVER the web on all major tech sites anyway.

Looks like they took it down, I'm getting a broken link.

yeah, I was told I might have to wait a while for the site working.. did not succeed yet. they sure see a lot of traffic. If someone is successful, let us know. I wonder if it is a free version to distribute and use on multiple machines or if you still need to register a serial.
Edit: Just searched through some blogs.. They seem to give away the same serial with all downloads.

I've always found giveaways slightly less exciting when nobody can actually get the product that is being given away.
PS: I'm giving away free Lamborghinis here!: http://www.thisurlwillneversuccessfully … alpage.com

Is it OK to torrent this since they are giving it away for free (but their site can't handle the load)?
One of my clients (and therefore, by extension, me) still uses CS1---an experience which has contributed to my frequent "don't underestimate the real-world value of older, well-tested software" rants.

It turns out it is not that legal to do that, apparently it wasnt Adobe's idea to give it away for free

About Photoshop and wine
I am using CS4 and 5 with wine no probs - I will not be even trying Cs6 - I think it's just for 64 bit?

I am quite confused now.. the link is working and they provide a serial openly from their website. Can you provide more information as to this is ok to download or not? I read they are aware of what they're doing and lots of websites spread the news.. so is it kosher or will they sue half of the internet population?
they released this statement here: http://blogs.adobe.com/conversations/20 … rvers.html
"Update on CS2 and Acrobat 7 Activation Servers
Posted by Adobe Corporate Communications on January 7, 2013 4:05 PM in Creatives, Digital Media
Effective December 13, Adobe disabled the activation server for CS2 products and Acrobat 7 because of a technical glitch. These products were released over 7 years ago and do not run on many modern operating systems. But to ensure that any customers activating those old versions can continue to use their software, we issued a serial number directly to those customers. While this might be interpreted as Adobe giving away software for free, we did it to help our customers."

secret must be contained in the word "their";
..."can continue to use their software..."

Seems pretty clear that this is not "free" software. That being said, the likelihood that Adobe would track the use of software released in 2005 that now has only a single serial key is minuscule. You'd be more likely to get in trouble pirating XP.

seems like you may download it and note down their serial for activation, but you are not allowed to use it without valid license. weird! - it is currently listed as freeware in the download section on popular german tech sites with a direct link to adobe- I wonder how they will communicate to the public on this in the next days.

This is the important part of the blog post IMHO. Adobe isn't giving away the software; it is essentially reclaiming deprecated versions of software that would have become abandonware.
