Local rsync question [Solved]

Afternoon All,
I am trying to backup a partition on my laptop to a connected external hdd. I would also like to exclude two directories.
Using rsync I've tried

rsync -av /Stuff/ /media/disk/backup --exclude=/Stuff/Dropbox --exclude=/Stuff/OSs

This will rsync but does not exclude the two folders. I have googled the problem but most things deal with remote servers, and I can't sort out what I need.
All help gratefully received.
Cordially
Simon

Re: Local rsync question [Solved]

Thanks for the reply. That was what I was doing wrong. I removed /Stuff/ and it works smile

Re: Local rsync question [Solved]

for a local usage one should probably use --times as well, for example;

rsync --times -rvh --progress --exclude-from /absolute/path/exclude.txt /from/my/hdd/folder/ /to/my/usb/folder/

I have tested this and next update is uberfast (you know like 0.0001 ms).

(and perhaps --perms?, unless thats already fixed with -a switch?)

where /absolute/path/exclude.txt may look like

*.pek
Adobe Premiere Pro Preview*
