you wonder what the current cpu usage is so you mouse over and it pops up but then you want to keep an eye on cpu usage so you click it and the cpu value stays on screen

i may actually embark on a fully formed conky setup lol

Code it to pop open - or change colour - when the CPU (RAM etc ...) reaches a predefined threshold. big_smile

Now, back to lurking about.

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

To whom it may concern, you deleted your post but my email got the message:

This is my watch:dd9c03179615790.jpg
A 12 hour dial with the main numbers being 13 - 24. The plastic/rubber strap was replaced with an excellent quality leather strap and I've had it for 11 or 12 years now.  The battery lasts about 2 years.

IF I was ever in a store that sold one of these 24 Hour Watches it would be on my wrist faster than you could say WOW! I was wrong, you can get 12 or 24 on the top, check the first and last in that lineup, I'd go for the first!  I really don't look all that hard, maybe I should.

I did have a 24hour dial electric kitchen clock (similar to the conky) that I left behind when I came here (110v vs 220v). You can find some at the 24 Hour Clocks Shop.  Or even here at 24hourtime. They have been around for a LONG time.

You have 3 cores there - how much memory?

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

help please!

i'm trying to display the output of a json-file called

/home/beadmaze/save.json

which is part of a python-script which Iain was so kind to write for me: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/post/196659/#p196659
when opening it with gedit it shows me this e.g.:

{"distance": 2424796.634968588}

when opening it with terminal

python mouse.py info

it gives me this:

You moved your cursor 2424796 pixels
which equals 4849 cm of mouse movement

what i want to achieve is to make conky display the

4849 cm

-part of it.
but how?
i searched for "conky & python", "conky & json" but, well...
i realized i lack basic understanding of how conky works and what phyton is actually doing here.
but maybe anyone knows how to solve this?
push me into the right direction please if you think my question is lame.
thanks in advance!

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

you could try this

python mouse.py info | sed -n 2p | awk '{print $3 " " $4}'

should get you just the info you want in terminal
then

${exec python mouse.py info | sed -n 2p | awk '{print $3 " " $4}' }

or execi interval
in conky

although im sure it would be faster (cpu wise) to edit the python script, but i dont know python
but if i was going to:

if('info' in sys.argv):
    print("You moved your cursor " + str(int(data['distance'])) + " pixels")
    cm = data['distance'] / dc
    print("which equals " + str(int(cm))+ " cm of mouse movement")
    exit()

becomes

if('info' in sys.argv):
    cm = data['distance'] / dc
    print(str(int(cm))+ " cm")
    exit()

Re: Conky v1.9 Thread

I just wanted a conky that told me what I needed to know and that's it. As such, it's not the least bit fancy or pretty looking, but it does the job. I think there's the odd alignment issue that I need to tweak a little, but it'll do for now.

It's pretty much a copy/pasta from various different conky scripts (picked the little bits I wanted, ignored the rest). Bit of a frankenstein's monster, I guess. Meh, works for me :-)

I'm now running Arch after a mishap with the 'dd' command caused me to wipe my hard-drive (let that be a lessson to you all tongue). No login manager, no icons, no desktop; only openbox. It's awesome. I'l be shoving the next Crunchbang on my netbook when it's released.
