PCmanFM Built-in file searching

First of all,

THANkS,

crunchbang is fantastic, I am now working on some customisation fo my conky config and everything is really great... only one small thing.
Probably it is me, but I don't seem to be able to find any file using the"find" in PCmanFM.
If i create a test file in a folder and then open file manager browse to the folder, go to tool, find and hit find, i simply get an empty search result window with search again at the bottom right.
I tried to play with * and search sub directories and search hidden file, but always nothing.

Am I the only one experiencing this?
Anyone know what I could be doing wrong?

Hello mcarni

I have to admit that I had not used this feature until I read your post, I tend to use a combination of find and grep in the terminal. Anyhow, I just tested the search feature on my system and it seems to be working fine.

Can anyone else confirm whether or not this is working?

Just tested my pcmanfm and the search (or find) is not working.  Also tried it as root with no luck.

An alternative (if you know the directory your file is in), is to open the directory and start typing the name of your file and will jump to file as your typing.  Or use the find or grep cmd's as discussed above.

Thanks guys,

I am glad it is not only me....

i am no expert, but maybe I understood part of the problem, I created a test file and saved it somewhere in home/images (or something similar) and I tried 2 things:

1 - open fpcmanfm, navigate to the directory wher I knew the file was, and I ran the search

2 - open fpcmanfm, select "file sytem" (/) on the left and run the same search

The first search found 0 results while the second found the file I was looking for (together with another billion files since I smartly named my test file "new":D)

I would say that something goes wrong when you select the search directory....

@ corenominal, I definitively need to study grep, and another couple of commands... I am sure it will always come handy to know how to use them

It doesn't work for me either. If I run:

gnome-search-tool

...it finds files successfully, but I can't open the files - I can just use the info to help navigate to them in PCmanfm.

try putting * on each side of your search item. *zappa* will find a folder named zappa but zappa (without *s) will return nothing. of course you have to +ADD a location to "Places to Search" if that box is empty. use / if you are not sure where to look.
