Am I the only one that thinks ...
Yes. The performance is good... the singer is in tune and emotional, they pretty much hold the tempo, the unison syncopations are tight, the drummer (the only instrumentalist who gets to show off his chops in this song) manages to (spoken as Sean Connery) PUNCH THE KEYS!!!
The problem is the song is so effing boring. A one-chord/one-lick jam that drones on for over five minutes. The guitar and bass double the same lick that gets repeated ad nauseum (over 20 times in just the first minute). So the only musical tension in the song is the steady crescendo and the switching of time signatures between 4/4 and 7/4. Add some Jungian vagueness which is essentially teen angst (never heard that in a rock song before!) and you've got... meh.
Tool -Sober (Hey! Another one-chord song in the same key and tempo as 42 and 6!)

^That's rather harsh from a dude who hasn't made several million dollars. I like Tool, you could do a lot worse than listening to Tool. (Try https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQy4-KE8lQUMehliania: Taming the Dragon, track 4 and on especially, by Brad Mehldau though, if you can handle instrumental.)
I love me some gruff/sweet Paul voice...

I'm not quite sure I got you there. Are you saying Tool are meh? or metal is meh? Because there is a difference and it would make sense if you think metal is meh.
Anyway I'm not hating, it's just been a long time since I hear someone classify Tool as 'Meh'

p.s II - Wait, did you just criticize your own previous post. God, I'm confused now.

I always liked this version better than Marvin Gaye or CCR.

Yeah I like Buddy Miles, but I was dancing to Gladys Knight's version when I was 5 years old and it stuck with me.

Got my hands on a couple of older recordings of piano pieces by Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka, one of my favourite Russian composers. Tomorrow I'll head over to imslp.org, download some sheet music and play it all myself; yay.

I have the day off today, I plan to revisit the music I listened to in college (the mid-eighties, baby!)
First up, my favorite chill-out album... Nightclubbing, by Grace Jones (Sly and Robbie on bass and drums)

^Love it. Black Uhuru was Sly and Robbie's main gig back then, Chill Out, Anthem and Ion Storm were in heavy rotation on our platters back then. Also Steel Pulse's True Democracy and Earth Crisis. I started college in '83 so some of this stuff dates back to high school for me. (Eeek, age!)
The B-52s - Deep Sleep (from Mesopotamia, produced by David Byrne)
I was just thinking, is there another B-52s song with so few vocals?

I'm sorry, that last track was from 1973. That doesn't mean that I wasn't listening to it in 1983, nor that it doesn't have strong coke ties, nor that it is irrelevant to the tracks I've been posting.
