Hot Buttons In Top Left Hand Corner

Hello everyone,
New to the forum, actually new to all forums. I have never joined one. Being a self admitted distro5lut.. the day that I found #! was the day I settled down. When I found out about BunsenLabs brand new Hydrogen release candidate, I was pumped. I love it so far. Now that the pleasantries are out of the way, I would like to make a suggestion. The 4 quick launch icons in the top left hand corner on the tint2 panel.. what is the necessity of that? IMO, they are ugly, redundant, and muddy up the otherwise gorgeous and minimal desktop environment. The OpenBox launcher provides quick enough access to the web browser, and then there is the Super+W hot keys for the browser.. same can be said for the file manager, editor and terminal. I removed mine easy enough, but why not make it standard, just like good old CapnCrunch? The less there the better is the entire purpose of Minimal Distro. Also, for new users who migrate to BunsenLabs, having them use OpenBox regularly will encourage them to explore more perhaps? Just my opinion. at any rate, excited to have you Bunsen!   big_smile Installing the 64Bit RC1 on my HP Stream 13 as soon as I get home.
BTW touch screen is already working well, but I hate that the pointer follows my touch, good jarb though.

To both Sector11 & Head_on_a_Stick.
I edited Tint2 first thing last night as soon as I noticed the panel! I poked around and found the file very quickly, Infact I did this before I even installed RC1, just in the live usb. It wasnt hard at all to vanish it, was just strange to see it there is all. But, im super impressed with the whole package so far. Best distro I have found yet.

Thing is some people like the "systray" in tint2.  But that's the beauty of Linux: Tweak it your way!

Re: Hot Buttons In Top Left Hand Corner

Welcome! Glad you joined. I prefer not to have the app icons on tint2 myself but is easy enough to edit them out. I do kind of like it as the default, however, because those 4 apps are the core of any Linux system. It's a good thing for new users to learn. If you have a web-browser, an editor, a file-manager and a terminal you can pretty much build Linux any old way you want to, given some persistence.

Re: Hot Buttons In Top Left Hand Corner

Just like in the first post, those were exactly my thoughts after having a first look at BunsenLabs. I did remove them but also understand that some users may find it comfortable to have those icons in the top left hand corner. It feels a bit strange though that they are default. However those new fonts are absolutely brilliant, conky is much easier to read, as well as the #bÌ menü.

Re: Hot Buttons In Top Left Hand Corner

^It depends on your work flow at the time. If your hand is on the mouse it's easier to slide it over to an icon and click. If you've got your hands on the keyboard it's easier to do Win+t or whatever.

Re: Hot Buttons In Top Left Hand Corner

Crunchbang was made with bold decisions around simplicity (e.g. one preferred way for starting applications), and I hope BunsenLabs will find its own way, it looks already very promising.

Re: Hot Buttons In Top Left Hand Corner

I'll just add, that removing those launchers was one of the first tweaks I made to the bunsen desktop. I'd wager they aren't used by many. Even completel novices can see th keyboard shortcut list provided by conky. And there's the default openbox menu with shortcuts as well. I think editing them out of the defaults would have my vote. However, if they do stick around, it'd be nice if the icon theme was monochromatic and matched the rest of the default desktop.
