Re: Quit smoking

I remember buying cigarettes for my father when I was a kid, but I don't remember what they cost. By the time I bought them for myself, I think they were $.25/pack in the vending machine and perhaps less at the corner store. When I was stationed overseas, I could buy a carton of Luckies for $1.70. It's a wonder my lungs aren't charcoal.  8)

Re: Quit smoking

Wow, you guys really aren't dating yourselves.  I was watching an episode from X-Files season 2, and I was surprised to be reminded that cigarette vending machines were still "a thing" in the 1990s. yikes  I'd almost completely forgotten they ever existed.

OK, so I won't mention penny candy and cokes for a nickel...or watching double features at the cinema for just $.25 (if you were under 12 years old).... tongue  tongue  tongue

Re: Quit smoking

^ Hey, even I remember penny gumball machines! lol

I just remembered I've seen cigarette vending machines within the past decade...but it was at a place I wouldn't want to admit visiting.  IIRC it was something like $4.00 per pack at the time.

They still have cigarette vending machines in Japan.  You can buy all kinds of things from vending machines in Japan, even porno mags.

Re: Quit smoking

^ Yeah, I've heard Japan even has vending machines that...well, let's just say they provide used...garments...that have some appeal to an unsavory segment of the population.  I've heard schoolgirls can earn quite a bit of coin selling to the vendors.

^ Based on a Japanese movie I saw, school girls can earn money for doing other things too.

Re: Quit smoking

no problem there  big_smile 's funny...

Anyway - still going strong. The urges are non-existent until I see someone smoking, and then I have to remember myself that I'm probably not even going to like the taste of it by now...

Tonight will be the first big test since I started. A night out with my football friends... There will be booze. Everyone else will be smoking.

That's a tough environment to be in for someone trying to quit smoking.

Re: Quit smoking

I agree.  The 12-steppers typically advise people entering recovery to avoid situations where they're surrounded by people using.  I wouldn't be surprised if arcum has a bad time. sad

On the plus side, he did achieve his goal of not smoking, despite the smokers around him. smile

@arcum:  Have to wonder how much second hand exposure you had, but kudos for not lighting up yourself! cool

Re: Quit smoking

Hang in there, arcum.  The urges take awhile to disappear, but eventually they'll go away.
