Maestro - drum roll!
Hmmmmmmmm it was a thin crack in the wall ... one that seven pogo sticks could get in through ....
That's it I have my 8) 's on you now.
BTW, I just shot a spammer in the (insert your favourite place here)! He only managed to get one spam post before I got him/her/it
{just remember it's a family channel}
BTW Maestro - That was NOT a drum roll!

I was wondering what the hell was going on. As soon as I got home & saw how much SPAM there was, I ran like hell for my emergency strength Tinfoil Hat, then grabbed the roll & added a few more layers to it.

I actually listened to a few of them thanks to your pogo sticks. Some bad - never hear the end and some good ones.

^ Maybe intended as a pun?
Anyways, if Animusic is a bit too odd, for your taste:

Can't we just pipe each post through bogofilter and throw out the spammy ones? There must be ample material for training Mr. Bayes at this point.
Being as that end of the ETHCAS isn't exactly my department, I can't say for sure, but I think that, since the filter uses SPAM:ham rations in connection with specific key words, some posts people make can, while being entirely legitimate, inadvertently set off the SPAM detector. This is probably what's been going on with the increase in false positives lately.

Also, it seems that this sort of piracy-related SPAM has been becoming more common, diluting Baba Ji a bit

Yep, that's been taken care of, for now. Thanks to photonucleon and Menschenkind for reporting this series of spam.

OK. I just thought that the changing, I guess you'd say SPAM demographics, is kinda interesting

Say, just a question that came to mind - has anyone's account ever been hacked & taken over by SPAMbots? (A story I heard in my multimedia class just brought that to mind)

^ Not spambots, but about four years ago a former moderator here (who shall remain unnamed) accidentally his account by a malicious miscreant who proceeded to delete most of the threads on the forum. After locking out that mod's account, corenominal managed to restore the forum from backups; we lost about a day's worth of new posts.
I'm sure it's possible to hack an account and then turn control of it over to a bot...

Well, sorry you can't read the entire thing because it has been deleted and the user banned. Thanks to nore, Bearded_Blunder and mrpeachy for reporting it.

I'm about to test a new function of the (Un)Official #! Emergency Tinfoil Hat Distribution Center: Automated reporting of spam messages. Please leave me a personal message if this is annoying for the staff or the number of false positives is too high.

I just about banned you.
This doesn't mean you will be sending 'fake' spam messages does it?

Nope, it's just a hook to the ETHCAS spamfilter, when it detects a spam message, it not only increases the counter and add the message to the database, but it also automatically reports the message with the provided text.
The system works about the same as the way spambots operate, however this one does not post new messages, but only reports ones. I'll be adding more names to the whitelist in the next hour, to reduce the number of false positives.

I saw a lot of messages the last couple of days, but still not sure if my addon is working the way it should do... At least the script didn't crash

Does 18 pages of a thread called "SPAM alert!" qualify as spam?
Reminds me of putting the empty Hefty bag box into the last Hefty bag.
