I'm afraid that the draconian powers of Homeland "Security" allow us to prevent you from leaving your keyboard. The monitoring of your communications indicates that the drone program MUST continue for the good of the "Free" World.  tongue

Re: SPAM alert!

I'm wondering if all this SPAMCON 2 business is just a malfunction, as I've not seen any SPAM today at all. Has anyone else?

@#!_828:  We have a bit more coverage mod-wise, so aside from those who have set their accounts to send email notifications of every new thread, we're usually able to get rid of the spam before too many eyes get on it.

Some forums have a policy where new accounts are moderated ... perhaps something to consider (though annoying for new users).

We have some means to check users and a new idea is in the works. Sometimes there is just one that slips through.

Seems you're doing a good job; it's got to the stage where I click on a SPAM post to report it and I get an error message telling me it's already gone big_smile

Re: SPAM alert!

I have SMF set up with a CAPTCHA for the first 5 posts in the case of new users.. it used to work well, but the bots have got so smart I had to up the difficulty to where most humans struggle more than the spam-bots seem to  mad

Seems to be a losing battle everywhere.

Re: SPAM alert!

The Arch forum's version of CAPTCHA is pure genius:

What is the output of "date -u +%V$(uname)|sha256sum|sed 's/\W//g'"?

I'd like to see a bot figure that out big_smile

Re: SPAM alert!

@Bearded_Blunder:  The problem with CAPTCHA is that there are so many twits on the internets who are all to willing to fill in one to download the latest game or dumbphone app or free pr0n; the "services" offering these have a ready army of real humans (and I use that word loosely) to answer the CAPTCHAs that let the bots post spam to forums.  That's why the Arch forum challenge (I believe "shibboleth" is a more accurate term for that example) is so effective - the average socially connected ID-10-t would just say "DAFUQ?" and move on.

Is the answer "42"? lol lol lol lol lol lol

Maybe next it will be:

67***** and on and on and on until *************13
That's that answer, what's the question?

^ Yep, definitely how Baba Ji keeps getting in & we're now at SPAMCON 1. The thing to remember now is don't panic, just keep your tinfoil hats securely on & go calmly about your business. The Moderators & (U)#!ETHDC are on the scene, keeping eyes on the forums, & generally watching out for you  cool
