now that adding icons is so easy ive been looking around for more, might have a few more links later

wun is pretty much all done, so not a lot more needs testing

e all of the above ... going slow ... do not hit X ... do not hit X ... do not hit X

My fourth attempt at responding ... I need a break!

I have to test with the sym-links.  I have traditionally avoided sym-links (other than OOTB ones I don't know about) as I backed up some stuff a few years back.  And on recovery discovered that the sym-links didn't back up!!  I was not a happy camper.

Questions:

1 - Why use a sym-link to it when a direct link or xyz.png works just as well.
2 - Does this mean future (the latest) WUN script works with 'sym-links' and not direct access?

Are falldown's icons going to be incorporated? (v9000 in action)

http://s20.postimg.org/o7kp3p4sp/2014_02_08_21_00_08_382x1052_Sector11.jpg

the main reason is ease
using one set of icons, no need to rename them, just as they come from downloading them
i only have to edit a couple of text files and i can generate all the icons i need, correctly named for wun to use

the other reason is that now every different weather condition that wun searches for could potentially have a different icon, because wun looks for a unique icon name for every different weather instance (248 differently named icons/symlinks in an extended set)

so if an icon set has many different icons i can use them, or a set has a limited number of icons i dont have to duplicate the icons, only make multiple symlinks to the same icon.  otherwise i would have to copy and rename the same icon over and over again and that increases the folder size (and the increased time and effort involved), symlinks do not add to size

the real icons are still in the icon folder, and the shell scripts can regenerate the symlinks at any time

OH!  That makes a whole bunch of sense ... I wonder if they will backup ... I have them in place, just not used yet ...

Thanks mrpeachy.

EDIT:  Yup, they backed up ... time to read and catch up!

I'll be able to fine tune it now I have an example

Well gentlemen.. My laptop (baby) crapped out on me about a week ago. I have been really frustrated about it.
The integrated nvidia card overheated and partially melted. I have had it for 6 years.
I have my ipad (which I wish I had never purchased).
Kinda bummed that I won't be able to get a new laptop for awhile.  I will be back helping at some point.

try this replacement alert section

--ALERTS SECTION
local altx=10--top left x
local alty=280--top left y
local allw=12--line gap
local wrap=40
out({x=altx,y=alty,txt="Alerts: "..alerts.number})
if alerts.number>0 then
	add=0
	for i=1,alerts.number do
	ypos=alty+allw+add
	out({x=altx,y=ypos,txt=alerts[i].description})--description
	ypos=ypos+allw+allw
	nexty=out({c=0xFF8C00,x=altx,y=ypos,txt=alerts[i].message_heading,wrap_len=wrap})--heading text
 for n=1,#alerts[i].message_body do--this loop prints the body text
 ypos=ypos+nexty+allw
 nexty=out({x=altx,y=ypos,txt=alerts[i].message_body[n],wrap_len=wrap})
 end
	ypos=ypos+nexty+allw
	nexty=out({c=0x00BFFF,x=altx,y=ypos,txt=alerts[i].message_statement,wrap_len=wrap})--statement text
	add=ypos+nexty+add-alty
	end
end--of alerts section

EDIT - i had posted my test code which was calling a different table, should work now!

Too bad HP & nvidia had a class action lawsuit several years ago involving bad nvidia graphic chips.
They lost and had to replace motherboards in the laptops that had the problems.

Re: Wun Weather Script for Conky (Lua)

ive been thinking of ways to access the data available through wun in a compact way
here is one thing that ive got working
"scrolling" hourly weather

im might try and make a mouseover scroll effect
but at a conky interval of 1 second it might be a bit slow

why thank you smile
im also thinking of maybe putting together a graphing function
so you can track temperature over the next 36 hours or 10 days at a glance smile

problem with that is there can be sooo many options LOL
ive written graph functions before and they always get overly complicated!

Re: Wun Weather Script for Conky (Lua)

Well, I finally got a chance to play with the sim-linked icon sets ... banged my head against the wall for a day - mrpeachy set me straight though.

My problems is a strange starting point: /media/5/Conky/wun - and modified "wun.lua" files for various templates and conkys ... mad I tell you ...

... I'm going mad! ... ndetavi_lc_mad_scientist_555px.jpg ... conky muwahahaha

I have wunrc and wun.lua and wun_config.lua configured so I only need one of each.  big_smile
Much better than the "separate files" for each setup.  Still needs some tweaking ... these are for testing.

Now I have to start making them metric.  big_smile

Oh and setup my new location - across the pond in Europe ... metric conky with alerts ... muwahahaha
