so, pretty sure that last update has screwed my uzbl...
thnx webkit. X|
... no doubt i'll get things back in working order eventually (only happened once before, and worse than this, and easily remedied), but for now, this seems like an opportunity to quickly jump into another lightweight browser.
i've had a little nosey at them all*, and here's a quick capsule review of my own take on them (sorry if you're offended by my words regarding your fave browser)
pleasant, simple, conventional, uninspiring. often times buggy.
surprisingly pleasant, clean, expedient, conventional. qt. still on first impressions tho.
hey! it's like one of the cool gang from bellow, but it's in an accessible conventional form!
havnt used since becoming an emacsian... never seemed a point. until now?
this one, i fell in love with when first using. guh guh guh gorgeous! if i wasnt using uzbl already when i found this one, i would have started using this one. dwb is the strongest contender here right now... and here's my main question: is there anything in any of the other browsers, that ought lure me away from wanting to make dwb my next new browser? which other browser(s) are even better**?
i confess, i know little of this one... used only for the briefest aquantance with some rudimentary keybinds long ago.
minimal suckless perfection
convention go boik
convention go back in time
... er... that list feels very short... i must be forgetting several...
or maybe just seems short because i've not mentioned the text web browsers.
anyhoo, thanks for reading, and if you've any suggestions for the next uzbl & dwb beating browser, i would love to see them mentioned in this thread, even with a little line about it if you like to sum up your experience with it, if you want.
*please inform of lightweight web browsers i dont know about. (or forgot to mention)
**configurability is obviously important to me.
lightweightness is too.
of slightly lesser importance is ease of use/configurability (however, i dont want to be tripping over controls for weeks, nor having to learn c and compile it, just to configure a bookmark keybind).
ps, i use vimperator in my iceweasel/firefox now, so life's not so bad... i can wait and see what wisdom or cheek i get from the community before i go changing my default browser from uzbl to ...

You can get a surprising amount done with lynx and it's quite fun to read the classics via Project Gutenberg with lynx on an x-less box.
have you tried luakit or dwb since the webkit update "broke" uzbl? they are both webkit browsers, so it's possible the same update broke them too.
i don't know what "convention go boik" is supposed to mean, but i like netsurf.
it's not so much what netsurf has, but what it doesn't have.

well... uzbl is working happily again. when i tried dwb, it just crashed a lot.
back to uzbl, phew.
wondering if it really was broken, or if i had just neglected to restart the event manager, and that had caused the problem.
