Make an ~/.xsession, make it executable with chmod +x, and put the commands in there.
I tend to use just an .xinitrc without any login manager, 'cos I'm raw like that. But I did have a little go with SLiM the other day, and I have it that slim.conf can do what you want without creating an .Xsession or an .xinitrc. I just had the wm's listed like:
openbox-session, herbstluftwm, spectrwm
following from where the existing wm is. I assume the default is the first entry.
The xsession did it... Thank you. I had tried this route before but had two self induced problems.
1. I didn't chmod +x
2. I named it .xsessions
@dura. I was wanting spectrwm to be my default manager over Openbox. AFAIK the order that you list the window managers in slim.conf only has a bearing on the order presented if you press F1 at the login prompt. It has no bearing if you simply enter your name & password & press enter.
