I've been to a few countries around the world (I come from England) and the most beautiful for me was the Greek islands. What's your favorites?

I really like Stockholm (coming from Rotterdam). I like the relaxed atmosphere and, of course, that my girlfriend lives there
Other than that, I really like the coast of Croatia, the south of Greece and the south of France. The rest of the world is still to discover for me!

Stockholm is really nice. Maastricht, Zurich and Ljubljana are lovely too.
Santorini in Greece is beautiful. I mentioned to a former colleague married to a Greek woman that I spent a couple of hours with my then girlfriend looking at the view from the main town on the island. He said he spent a whole week doing the same. Funnily enough, he was fired for putting his whole family on expenses for a trip to Stockholm.

Funny you mention Croatia Unia as I also thought the coast was really nice but I found the poeple there a bit erm "hard" This was before the war broke out and I remember saying to my friend "I hope we never have a war with these people - they're tough"! We went on a bus tour to Dubrovnik (think that's how you spell it) and the guide took pride in telling us about the countries that made up Yugoslavia - you know what they say, "pride comes before a fall". Shortly after they were shooting each other.

I've heard good things about Dura's pants errrr ... and the playboy mansion would probably be nice I guess.

Some common cbiz abbreviations. This will save me time and yet @ same time tell folks what the babble is supposed to mean.

I've been there last summer and the year before that. Everyone was friendly to us.

They've gotten used to living of tourism in the last couple of decades. Before the war, the country was pretty industrialized, and tourists were seen by most people as a nuisance.

I'll second the Outer Banks (been there myself as a resident), and I'll add the Pamlico and Albemarle Sounds if you like more swampy/marshy places (like dura's pants). ]:D

hmm - I'm slightly disappointed that out of all the beautiful places in the world Dura's pants seem to be getting the most mention

Fortunately for me, I live in a place that's a beautiful place to visit. I live on the Central California coast on the ocean side of a small mountain ridge that separates the Pacific Ocean from the Silicon Valley. If I did want to go someplace to get away, I'd probably go further north to the Pacific Northwest.

I live on the other side of the ridge from Larry and totally agree with him. A few hours north of here is Lake Tahoe which is definitely worth the trip. Hawaii is quite nice too.
Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Did I read somewhere that the crunchbang forum was a friendly place?

Trolls are friendly, just misunderstood!
On topic: Tuscany is beautiful. I'd love to go back to Venice. Cornwall and Brittany (and Eire) are also beautiful, in a more rocky, bleak way. The Greek islands are nice, but gradually getting more and more spoilt.
In fact, most everywhere I have been is quite beautiful. I either have low standards or am good at knowing where I will like

That's true. I have been in Santorini once and I think it's the most beautiful place I ever visited

I like Croatia, especially Istria. The people are friendly , really. The most beautufl places are Rovinj (my nr. one) and Motovun (the home of malvazija). Others like Dalmacia, it is good place too, Omis, isle Brac and Supetar on Brac is worth a tour.
