That's awesome! First community spin-off?
Does it have all the #! scripts and themes, and does it come with the same pre-installed apps?

I don't know if these guys were ever here on the forums - plus they provide other applications and themes. That's why I added a questionmark

I do not have a Raspberry Pi, but this look very cool. Good luck further with your PiBang!
Time to move on!#

Third. Don't forget Madbox. It's based on Ubuntu, but was inspired by #! in the days of 9.04.
...and since we're including Crunchy distrolets built on other parent distros, don't forget all the crunchpups...

@Unia: That doesn't take anything away from π! though. The other community builds were basically "CrunchBang's OK, but I like thus-&-such better." As far as I know, π! is the first community build to reproduce the #! user experience on a completely different architecture.
Nicely done, nw68868! That makes me wish I had a RasPi on which to try it out.

Awesome work, nw68868. Plus, awesome website design.

Thanks for all the Kudos. It includes most of the scripts and configs. Some things just are not available for the Pi and somethings plain don't work. But for the most part it is very similar.
As of now we are using the default #! program set, with a few ultra minor changes based on package nonavailability. We are not opposed to making changes if the community requests it. We are a separate project and therefor do not have to stick with #! defaults, we do REALLY like the defaults. You know what they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

More kudos for you nw68868, from the raspberry pi forums, http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt … 49#p190749
Just checked out PiBang. Well worth the download! I underestimated its potential. PiBang is an excellent release for the pi, runs like a champ.
I hope to try it by this weekend.

Yes I am glad I held out although you have to remember its not all about memory its about processor. Today most things online will hammer the processor so multitasking is almost useless with a good CPU! I have found this out the hard way with my PIII 1GHZ laptop. I can run a decent video file on Gnome Player and be running at max around 150meg but my processor might be 50-70% or more. So tell me what use is the 512meg I have then? So as a computer I think the Raspberry Pi overall probably sucks but as a media player with XBMC on XBIAN or something it is probably quite good. It really needs a chipset over 1Ghz.

Two words: system cache. Yes, Virginia, there's a system cache that typically uses *all* of your "unused" system memory, relinquishing it for applications as needed.
I apologize for feeding the troll.

This weekend we released RC4!
It is AWESOME. Everything the community wanted, they got. Wireless and Bluetooth support, with not only nm-applet but also a port of ceni from the Aptosid project. Community submitted artwork. Updated support for 512 mb Pi's.
If you havn't already, give it a shot! (make sure you sign into the forum and introduce yourself.)

Awesome. I just heard about #! today, then installed #! on my nettop and was awe struck. I'm already thinking of other things I can put it on. I will try on my pi

Bing bong at the door, my Pi has arrived at last!

Are you planning support for other arm devices? I do not understand why the raspberry pi gets so much attention comparing to other devices.

I've been running crunchberry for a few weeks. I was so pleased to find it.

As of now, No.
If you want to buy me a product-foo, I'll work on it, but I can't promise much, I am swamped with PiBang.
The reason that people care about the Pi is that it is very cheap, available, and always in the news.
The key here is cheap. It is not the best device by far, but it is good enough. Speaking as someone that is a middle school science teacher and actually uses several Pi's in the classroom, I can say that as little as $10 is a HUGE difference when I want an after-school program funded; multiply that $10 times 14 students as in my current class and you have a big number. My current class can only afford a few Pi's. That's one reason that I built PiBang, it is remarkably similar between the few Pi's that we have and the several old, battered, and barely functioning x86 laptops that I have had donated that run pure #!.
