Use rewritable CD as jumpdrive

Hey guys!

I just had a quick question.  In Windows (at least in WIndows 7), you can use a rewritable CD like a jumpdrive - put it in and copy files to it - the files will be written as normal, but the disk won't be made write protected.  In Linux, when I put that same CD in, I can copy stuff from the CD, but I can't copy anything *to* the CD.  I was wondering if

1) I can copy stuff to the CD without having to format it every time.

2) I can set up a CD in a similar way.

Thanks in advance!

Sincerely,

Chaanakya

Re: Use rewritable CD as jumpdrive

I found out that Vista uses something called the Live File System to achieve this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_File_System.  My question is: since Microsoft is still using the UDF format, why doesn't it work properly in Linux?  Is there no support for UDF 2.5 in Linux yet?

Re: Use rewritable CD as jumpdrive

Let me clarify: I can read from the disk, but I cannot write to it.
