Re: weather in conky (LUA scripts) updated 12/26/13!

@ Sector11

thev9000.lua in the v9000 archive should already have display_script=1, which is the switch for using an outside template

dont do anything with v9000translate.lua
that has been superseded by the current v9000.lua in the archive, it has all the translate stuff in it

read through the comments in the settings section and youll find there is a switch for the translate too

my screen is 1024 by 600 (i do pretty much everything on my little eeepc these days smile )

I haven't got that "repeat" part down yet, but when I do this will change

i read through v9002 and it seems like you have the right idea!

Re: weather in conky (LUA scripts) updated 12/26/13!

before i go and update the script link (now at the top of the first post on the first page of the thread) and the how to

here is another update currently in testing
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19008369/v9000testing.tar.gz

there are no new features, ive just rearranged where things are

now almost all of the settings part that was in the main script is in the display script, inside its own function

this function can be copied and pasted from display script to display script
and the only reason to open up the main script would be to set up the translation tables at the bottom

Re: weather in conky (LUA scripts) updated 12/26/13!

so ive been trying to think of the best way for people to interact with the weather scripts
dividing the script into 2 parts, the main script and the display/template script made sense and works well

but ive been thinking about what to do with the settings...
leave them in at the top of the main script
in which case you have to open up the main script every time you want to make changes and when i post an update you have to re-enter all your settings, or copy and paste over a bunch of saved settings.
redoing settings every update is just annoying and copy pasting has the potential to copy over something inportant

or move them into the template script
then you need to have them at the top of every template you make
which again leads to having to duplicate the settings

ive been pondering a separate settings file, and i have implemented that in these files
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19008369/v9000testing.tar.gz

edit the weather_settings.lua file to enter your preferences, then you wont need to enter them again

there is a 2 line setup section at the top of v9000.lua described in the readme

comments suggestions welcome smile

Re: weather in conky (LUA scripts) updated 12/26/13!

the dropbox link has been updated on the first page

the current version points to an archive

the archive contains all the v9000 files you need
the main script
the weather_display script and a separate config script

oepn the archive with archive manager or similar and extract the files to your /home/username directory

the readme is in the v9000 folder than is put into your directory

The conky has changed slightly since that last one too, but it would be too big for your screen.

I still need to convert barometric Pressure from inched to hPa ... been busy.  Have to look at that tomorrow if I have time.

Now to do the others.  I'll be back!

One similar but this one is added above, so it's with the image.

Re: weather in conky (LUA scripts) updated 12/26/13!

I am getting tired of this....

You guys have done a great job on this script, but i can't make it work....

It keeps :

Conky: llua_do_call: function conky_weather execution failed: attempt to call a nil value

I've made an empty conky cofiguration with only the lua_load fuction and it still outputs this error....

Has anybody any idea, what may cause it?

edit: Nvm, i just fixed it^^.

Great work guys ^^

Great work guys ^^

What was the problem?

well i noticed the first error output mentioned something about a username in v9000.lua at #6.
I had already seen that string while searching alone, but i thought that i would be some kind of variable (because there is a strange definition right above it). Anyway i changed it to my username, and everything run fine ^^.

Edit: And now its time for the serious questions ^^:

Is there any data option to parse the location?

And one more question, is it possible to embed a conky object inside the lua?

Re: weather in conky (LUA scripts) updated 12/26/13!

glad you got it working

it looks like you are using the latest update with the separate config file
i was hoping that

username = os.getenv("USERNAME")

was going to be successful in automating username input

somewhere in the template file weather_display.lua, can you put a line like this

print (os.getenv("USERNAME"))

and see what it outputs in a terminal and compare that to your actual username

no option at the moment to parse location but could be easily added!

and yes, you can get any conky object you want through lua
use the out() function like this for example

out({x=100,y=100,txt="cpu:"..conky_parse("${cpu}")})

or you could set a string first

cpuperc=conky_parse("${cpu}")
out({x=100,y=100,txt="cpu: "..cpuperc})

you can put any regular conky variable inside conky_parse("")

I'm guessing all this works since I am using that latest:

--weather v9000 by mrpeachy 01/10/12
require 'cairo'
require 'imlib2'
--SETUP--SETUP--SETUP--SETUP--SETUP--SETUP--SETUP--SETUP--SETUP--SETUP--SETUP--SETUP
username = os.getenv("USERNAME")
package.path = '/home/'..username..'/.v9000_config.lua'
require '.v9000_config'
--END SETUP--END SETUP--END SETUP--END SETUP--END SETUP--END SETUP--END SETUP--END---

And it is finding ~/.v9000_config.lua without a problem

Re: weather in conky (LUA scripts) updated 12/26/13!

i guess there is a possibility that a user sets up an account, but can then edit something so that their home folder is named something different

ill put a note into the readme in case of v9000.lua error at line 6
and a line in v9000.lua so that they can go and set ot manually

im also looking into getting location and other general info
turned out to be a bit more involved as that info is at the top of the intellicast page code and outside of the code chunks i am gathering

however working on it has led to perhaps a little more efficiency
we shall see after some testing

I just did some Googling - I don't think that's possible, but don't know for a 'fact'.

mrpeachy wrote:

You should create two files now:

  • v9000_1st_time.tar.gz

  • v9000.tar.gz

Otherwise 'every time there is an update of v9000' and the file as it exists now is downloadedand extracted, it will overwrite ~/.v9000.config.lua  OOPS!

OR: - and this is better:  Put the config file in ~/v9000:

~/v9000/v9000.config.lua

and explain in the README that ~/v9000/v9000.config.lua must be copied to ~/.v9000.config.lua and the personal information changed for it to work.

I should have though of that earlier.  sad
Doing it now means no additional download for people that have grabbed the new archive if v9000.lua has no changes. and in fact you would need to say nothing.  big_smile

Location? Why?  I know where I am, don't you know where you are?  I can tell you if you want.
lol lol

mrpeachy, now that you have a configuration file, could you make a separate GUI that allows the user to input the variables that suit them & creates/modifies the config file?

smile

@ handy .... hmmm i think writing a GUI may be a little outside my coding abilities at this time big_smile

anyway

been working on the v9000.lua main script, adding some data options
have done most of the work on showing alerts
screenshot-1309.png

still have a few things to work out, but more or less there
(this isnt my location by the way, its los angeles!)

also going to put in that location option

Still good for people in the US.

Re: weather in conky (LUA scripts) updated 12/26/13!

ive been digging around in the conkyforecast files and found some moon and bearing images that i can adapt to v9000

it was a bit tricky trying to decide which moon image to pick for each phase, but i found a sequence via google and went with that

screenshot3acc6373adc7aad1bb0304b1078edf62.png

look into the bearings icons next

also going to put in that location option

im almost positive that v9000 can handle anything intellicast can spit out smile
im just finishing up a quite significant update which adds a fair few more options
and a slight alteration on how it gathers the data

but as with other updates, any existing templates will display as expected and only v9000.lua will change

i think this next update may well mark v9000 as finished big_smile

OK, will we have to get out our spyglasses and hunt for the changes or will they be documented?  big_smile

glad you got it working

it looks like you are using the latest update with the separate config file
i was hoping that

username = os.getenv("USERNAME")

was going to be successful in automating username input

somewhere in the template file weather_display.lua, can you put a line like this

print (os.getenv("USERNAME"))

and see what it outputs in a terminal and compare that to your actual username

Edit: And now its time for the serious questions ^^:

Is there any data option to parse the location?

And one more question, is it possible to embed a conky object inside the lua?

no option at the moment to parse location but could be easily added!

and yes, you can get any conky object you want through lua
use the out() function like this for example

out({x=100,y=100,txt="cpu:"..conky_parse("${cpu}")})

or you could set a string first

cpuperc=conky_parse("${cpu}")
out({x=100,y=100,txt="cpu: "..cpuperc})

you can put any regular conky variable inside conky_parse("")

Just great, i'll be waiting for the location parser.

Of course i saw that mrpeachy is the creator, but you Mr Sector11, have done some important work too^^. Thats why i wanted to thank you both. smile

Edit: Well its not as great as i thought... All i wanted to do was to add $hr in the weather script, but instead of getting an horizontal line, i am getting a stupid square.... When using cpu, its working just fine. Can anyone check that for me?
