Re: [SOLVED] where do i find the shutdown log?

hm, ok... thanks a lot so far!

maybe i should have mention i'm one of these gui-guys, non-techies, lifetime-noobs, but:
i cannot find a file called "boot.msg" nor "boot.omsg" in my /var/log/, my file "boot" says

(Nothing has been logged yet.)

, "bootsrap.log" has no timestamps and the "wtmp"-file gives me an error when i try to open it with gedit.

what am i missing here?
how do the logs in statler work?
where to find them and how to open?

and: sorry for maybe behaving a bit stupid.

exim4: ALERT: exim paniclog /var/log/exim4/paniclog has non-zero size, mail system possibly broken

If the error message disturbs you very much, do

sudo rm /var/log/exim4/paniclog

Re: [SOLVED] where do i find the shutdown log?

well, it does not really annoy me as (nearly) everything works as it should - i just thought i might have a look what this error-message means.
it is actually just a tiny red flash in my eye for less than a second when i shut down my box - so it does not really hurt.
smile

thanks a lot anyways!!!
