just tried for you guys, it isn't showing for me either. bacon maintains the server and thus the forum software, so asked him to have a look at it. sorry for the inconvenience.

edit: the board is currently disabled due to maintenance, but from the bots suddenly signing up again i believe bacon has fixed it smile
try registering later in the day, assuming the maintenance will be done then.

ah yes, it is a common trend to call anybody who does not speak inside your line of thought a troll. it's just easier to deal with it that way.

btw, i have no issues with a thread about decaf coffee. since it does not contain caffeine (which, as you know, is the active psychoactive component inside coffee), it is non-addictive, and doesn't give you the amphetamine-like stimulus normally acquired from it.

#3 Re: Off Topic / General Chat » Coffee is a food group » 2012-10-02 09:24:45

@corenominal: it is good to know you consider answering a honest question a 'waste of time'. instead of actually talking about an issue, you choose to avoid it by speaking in generalities and using terms like 'obvious to all'. if it really was so obvious to me, i would not have asked the question in the first place. so thank you for, in effect, calling me the moron here for not understanding this. i see now where omns finds his examples, as he did me this same service before.

i could aks you, in return, to consider your actions, and those of your moderators as well. to give a tiny example, the recent alteration of signatures which were, apparently, undesirable. however, i doubt such a 'controversial' question would result in an honest answer any more than my previous 'controversial' questions have. i suppose this is something that is 'obvious to all', too.

look, just be honest here. if you feel there is no need for yourself or your moderation team to take responsibility for their actions (or lack thereof), please just say so. but don't go hiding behind 'not going to waste my time', 'obvious to all', 'no reason to explain myself to you' and all that nonsense, and pretend you have just handled the matter swiftly.

^ what? please explain how it is moronic.
- coffee is not a psychoactive substance? (which is the scientific name for a drug)
- you will not close this thread because you are a user yourself and therefore wish to discriminate between different drugs - ie. the ones you and your friends use are okay but the ones used by others are not?
let me remind you of your own forum etiquette here:

We do not want our forums to be associated with porn, drugs, criminal activities or any other topic which may inadvertently cause offence to another forum member who reads the thread.

in addition to coffee being a drug by definition, the free discussion of an addictive substance, especially in the face of the banishment of discussions about non-addictive substances, causes grave offence to me.

#6 Re: Off Topic / General Chat » Coffee is a food group » 2012-10-02 08:28:47

coffee, and its active ingredient caffeine, is a psychoactive stimulant with many addicts around the world. the withdrawal symptoms include nausea, headaches and mild hallucinations. it has many streetnames, such as 'cup of joe' and 'java'. the widespread abuse of coffee has been accepted by most authorities (of which, unsurprisingly, many are users themselves), and it is being sold in supermarkets and to children without any reservations.

to use a more loaded term, coffee is a DRUG. i therefore urge one of the moderators to close this thread, as the discussion of drugs HAS NO PLACE in this forum, and it would be very undesirable for this community to be associated with substance abuse in ANY form.

please be aware that this is not in any way a personal attack. i am simply doing my duty as a community member in reporting behavior that goes against the forum etiquette. for those who still feel they need to talk about the use and abuse of this substance, a Google search reveals many places in which this drug may be freely discussed.

if y'all are gonna discuss symlinks, i'll just take the opportunity to thank minerals for posting this script. his reasoning was solid, there are indeed some quite annoying things about ls, and i applaud him for writing his own version. great job minerals.

the 'common sense' part here is what is missing, as i pointed out before.
guns, drugs, drugs.
i said this before, backstage, but nobody cared to listen:
the recent actions from the moderation team, notably from omns, are cutting away harder at the heart of this community than any drug discussion will ever be able to do.

that said, i don't immediately see which script works to power the laptop down. i figured there must be a or something, but all i see that gets close is and i feel it doesn't do shutdowns (?)
