Welcome vexare. As you're already familiar with Debian based distributions this should be a walk in the park.
Enjoy.
Had some hard time spent figuring out how to configure keyboard layouts.
Except for Openbox, yes, pretty much Debian.
I've installed #! yesterday. Originally dissatisfied with openbox when I first tried this distro(not sure how many months ago, before or after may), migrating from MATE and giving it a try.
Ubuntu has spyware, unity sux, I don't like KDE either and got bored of Mint Debian.
Here for short to long stay.
I'm well aware that I could configure my own distro by just 'debian-netinstall' and installing favourite packages but I don't know how, lol.
crunchbang with sid, systemd and slim - LinuxBBQ Darkside
too much cli applications.
this, but mpv probably has too many dependencies to include it in a livecd/installiso. they provide easy installation instructions on github.
...
however vlc is not a solution. get rid of it, put something based on mplayer in #!
deadbeef is ok but it can only play music and it wouldn't make sense to either bundle DB with VLC or other player since VLC could play audio too.
remove gimp and replace with something smaller/faster, whatever~paint software(gnome-paint, rgbpaint, xpaint)
remove pulseaudio
put gcalculator into accesories not office or, even better, replace with speedcrunch.
decide on whether using terminator or xterm, why are both installed?
add redshift .
probably would be a good idea to replace pidgin with xchat since pidgin can do basic irc and it supports more protocols like yahoo.
add a script to easely install nvidia or ati drivers, vdpau is very useful to playback video with lower cpu.
add keyboard layouts, some gui to easely configure them.
sorry if bad english. O:)
