#6 Re: Off Topic / General Chat » Storing a 191GB .tar.gz archive? » 2013-06-30 17:20:28

if its on an internal network i highly doubt anyone would care. This wouldn't offend your isp as its on an internal network. Thus not leaving your house on to the Internet smile

Ive uploaded quite sizable file on to a server in another part of the world. Didn't offend my isp as im on a truly unlimited plan

I have an Apache server running in my closet, but I'm running into some issues with getting the machine to play nicely with DD-WRT's port forwarding.

I thought I could FTP the archive to that server, assuming I can work out the port forwarding problem, but it just occurred to me that doing so might kill my bandwidth or otherwise offend my ISP and get me put on about 5,000 piracy watchlists

If i read right, why would transferring a file no matter what size onto a server in your house offend your isp?

Im lost now to be honest. If it was me i would change my sources to point to Jessie and try that. But i understand not everyone likes to do that. Have you had this problem on any other distros or is it just crunchbang?

Ill probably be plunging for a Haswell chip soon myself so it would nice to see you get this solved!

have you tried using the GUI version of it aRandr i think it is?

#11 Re: Help & Support (Crunchbang 11 "Waldorf") » [Solved] Intel HD 4600 Haswell dual screen » 2013-06-28 18:37:25

first thing i would try is a newer kernel. Haswell has only recently been released that kernel is quite old!

Need help with the kernel? By xaos52 By dura

Or you could use a newer kernel out of the repos if you switch to testing!

Or ----Lots of people have success with these kernels

i should add this was the method i had to do for debain testing, If you try to go for the unstable source you get hit with dependancy problems. They have no source for testing on that page so i had to pull from wheezy-backports thus explaining the package pin wink

I will edit the title now

First Download the Keyring … .1_all.deb

sudo geany /etc/apt/preferences

and add

Package: iceweasel
Pin: release a=wheezy-backports
Pin-Priority: 1500

sudo geany /etc/apt/sources.list

and add

deb wheezy-backports iceweasel-aurora

then finally

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Happy Crunchbanging big_smile

Getting samba set up was a right hassle on my network(stupid isp supplied router) I got it working eventually but cant really remember how. I also have aerofs set up which will sync like dropbox but not over the cloud.(just locally)
