[SOLVED] Help with a specific Conky!

I need people to test a conky on a desktop with various Distros, Desktop Managers and Window Managers.

What's it all about?

Some people say that using a CPU bar for a CPU you don't have causes conky to "crash" as you see I don't even get an error message with #! Statler regarding the CPU bar on the bottom.  I do see errors in the terminal regarding the battery bar I'm using but it's not crashing the conky!
The LARGE box you see is created by the second last line in the conky:

${voffset -850}${battery_bar 870,240}

I have NO battery!

The little box on the bottom, is created by the last line:

${cpubar cpu6 10,240}

I have an AMD64 single core - no 6 cores here!

Feedback should include:

  • OS:  Debian x86_64 - #! Statler

  • Kernel:  2.6.32-5-amd64

  • Resolution:  1280x1024

  • DE:  Not Present

  • WM:  OpenBox,

  • Conky Version:  Conky 1.8.0~git925e80ac compiled Sun Mar 28 09:54:47 UTC 2010 for Linux 2.6.32-3-amd64 (x86_64)

  • Does "right-click" work over the conky: Yes, and

  • A screenshot with the terminal open

It's all generic conky commands, nothing that should stop this from working on any computer - well, unless the CPU and Battery bars cause problems, but that is what I'm testing.

Thanks.

Yes, of course --- for science.  smile

Thanks a bunch - didn't mean to make you install conky just for this.  smile

I forgot to add:  Conky Version: ??

EDIT: Never mind it's in your "terminal" scrot!

Re: [SOLVED] Help with a specific Conky!

When running that specific conky, I only get a big, white box:

tNmJ5bQ

I'll have a look at the .conkyrc to see if I can fix this. (Using conky-lua from the AUR)

EDIT: No error messages in terminal

@Unia - do you have compositing enabled? Try disabling it. Also what DE/WM are you using?

I'm using Xfce4. Yes, I have compositing enabled, but even when I shut it off it stays white.

Re: [SOLVED] Help with a specific Conky!

Changing the bar values to {7, } removed the whiteness. (I could change the colour of the whiteness by changing the default color big_smile)

EDIT: Here's how it looks now:

Well that's different!  But I think "K" came up with a way it will work for everyone ...

Re: [SOLVED] Help with a specific Conky!

@ K - you are a genius

Some notes:

  • I created 2 images, one black, one white, 1x1 pixel each

  • I used: minimum_size 202 # Width Height

  • I never use an image command on a line by itself, it creates a "screen display line" if you do.

The test conky!

# To use #! in a conky use: ${exec echo '#!'}

Re: [SOLVED] Help with a specific Conky!

So what you've done is showing output bars as borders?

Borders, or lines.  ${hr} in conky runs from where you start it to the edge.

With ${cpubar cpu6 1,50} it draws a line 1px thick 50px long.  Then along came Conky v1.8.x and some machines complained.

So now a 1pixel image can do it.  No more problems.

The first test with images on the first 4 lines uses the image to create the "border"

them the two image calls after "SYSTEM" create the lines before and after the text.
