(This may be more appropriate in the Artwork/Screenshots subforum, im not sure)
After reading this:
...maybe we could start a new thread for themes and artwork for statler? I know it is not mission critical, but it is a fun pastime and I know there are a few of us on the forums who like to play about with the look and feel. It would be great to get some community created artwork into the builds.
I decided to make the thread myself!
This thread should be used to offer suggestions on what artwork and themes should be included in Statler.
So that means wallpapers, icons, skins, and openbox/xfce themes.
My opinion on the wallpapers is that i'd love to see some more monochrome wallpapers, it's a style that suits #! so well, and the gtk themes will match with them well. Overall however, i think we should aim at getting a good collection of some bright and colourful wallpapers too, for those who don't like things quite as dark.
At this point, Statler (at least in the xfce version) is using blue icons (forgive me i do not know the name, but the folders are what i noticed are a deep blue).
Statler is also using a light gtk theme, which i love.
So it would be very nice if we could whip up a monochrome icon set, to match the other colours of crunchbang.
And a darker version of the Statler theme would be good for some, i'm sure.
So go ahead and use this thread to suggest wallpapers, themes, etc. and lets have a big creative discussion!
We're going to make Statler sooo much prettier then Ms Piggy! Hahaha.
(Statler with Ms Piggy's makeup is just a reaaaaalllly weird image)

I like more the Tango icons in the previous version, but there is no problem changing that, also the xfwm theme could be at least not the default, just grey coloured.

Concerning Crunchbang's default gtk-theme: The first thing to do for me after install, is always change the theme to a mist-theme, because it is simply snappier than every other.
So my suggestion would be, to edit the colors in the standard gtkrc-file for mist to a more Crunchbangish color style and make it the default.
This page is about speed differences of gtk (German):

For icons I rather like GNOME-Colors. Feel free to include my dark versions if you want something closer to monochrome:

The matching Shiki-Colors GTK themes are nice too.

For those of us who like to play around with disturbing colors (glances to gutterslob), it might be nice to include the ACYL icon theme.

Now that is nice. Funny thing is, I was just playing with my Conky setup and just decided on purple fonts. Now i've found a matching wallpaper

Just an idea - for me, simplicity in computing always reminds me of old terminal usage (when a terminal was a machine, not a program...).
Most of them had monochrome screens, and most of those were green on black. A very typical green, Jamie Zawinski (jwz.org) of xscreensaver fame captures this very nicely in a matrixlike way - maybe this color combination could be an inspiration for crunchbang artwork?

"Strangelove? What kind of a name is that? That ain't no Kraut name, is it, Stainesey?" - "He changed it when he became a citizen. Used to be Merkwuerdigeliebe."

Do you mean something like this color-wise maybe...

@Zwopper & Dr.Strangelove - OK, you talked me into it. I'll re-tweak my monochromatic GTK and Openbox themes and try to come up with a simple ACYL-like script for them.
EDIT: How would one apply such a script to a wallpaper, like the default crunchbang.png? Maybe the solution is hidden in the existing ACYL script?

I have a wishlist item if it could be included with the default. I mentioned it in another thread but it makes more sense here. Right now the default theme in the alpha (at least the live cd) has the same color in the titlebar/control area for both in and out of focus windows, which makes some troubleshooting stuff harder. Maybe something like light gray for active and and dark gray or black with white or light gray text for inactive would work better and still look good?
edit- corenominal told me what to look for in the other thread- so, cool!

I think there should be a netbook theme with smaller fonts set by default.
I have no problem making those changes manually, but it would be nice to have there for new users.

Good idea! I'd appreciate something like that.

I liked the header on the release page so I just made it into a wallpaper. It's 1024x768 but I can make it larger/smaller if anyone wants.

To me the Madbox theme (I only know the openbox version) is unsurpassed.
Adcomps uses the Simple icon set,
And the Oblogout images of this version are great too...
As wallpaper I very much like the Orchid pics on this page: http://www.fabiovisentin.com/photos/wor … spx?idG=22
