Brand new to crunchbang

I've been a debian/ubuntu user for quite a while and I've tried several of the variants of ubuntu. I tried fluxbuntu, but they don't seem to be keeping up with it, it's still at 7.10. But so far I love crunchbang (I always thought that #! was shabang). I haven't switched to it as my primary distro yet, but if everything works out, I will.

Welcome to Crunchbang ewl smile I to had plans to just try out CrunchBang but switched to it as my main OS after only a couple of days. I hope you enjoy it as much as I am.

Re: Brand new to crunchbang

Hi ewl smile Welcome to the forums.

If you do decide to switch, do not hesitate to let us know if there is anything we can do to help out.

Regarding the #! crunchbang/shabang thing, shabang.org was already taken sad So I found an alternative. Apparently the character # was named differently depending on location. Xerox and CMU referred to it as the crunch sign. It is a little ambiguous, but I do not mind wink

Re: Brand new to crunchbang

ewl -- welcome to the community.  Look forward to seeing you on the boards.

omns -- I was under similar circumstances -- contemplating a move to Intrepid Ibex, Fedora 10 (very briefly), and Linux Mint 6 (when it's fully released), and stumbled onto Crunchbang, which offered more than I could have conceived of.  I switched over last night and don't see myself changing anytime in the near future.

corenominal -- Crunchbang is an awesome name.  Much more unique than shabang.  It works.

Re: Brand new to crunchbang

So far so good. I'm looking for the type of glitches that I came across in some other ubuntu based distros. For example in fluxbuntu, I could never get 3d graphics acceleration working, but that wasn't a problem with crunchbang. It seems to have all the functionality of ubuntu with a lot less overhead. I had a little problem getting cups started (I talk about that in a post to the help forum) but that was a glitch with Intrepid. So far so good. If I come across anything, I'll let you know.
