I want to install a self compiled Berkeley DB but don't want to use "make install". Unfortunately "checkinstall" interrupts with some errors:
========================= Installation results =========================== Installing DB include files: /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.8/include ... Installing DB library: /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.8/lib ... libtool: install: cp -p .libs/libdb-4.8.so /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.8/lib/libdb-4.8.so libtool: install: cp -p .libs/libdb-4.8.lai /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.8/lib/libdb-4.8.la libtool: install: cp -p .libs/libdb_cxx-4.8.so /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.8/lib/libdb_cxx-4.8.so libtool: install: cp -p .libs/libdb_cxx-4.8.lai /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.8/lib/libdb_cxx-4.8.la libtool: install: cp -p .libs/libdb-4.8.a /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.8/lib/libdb-4.8.a libtool: install: chmod 644 /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.8/lib/libdb-4.8.a libtool: install: ranlib /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.8/lib/libdb-4.8.a ranlib: could not create temporary file whilst writing archive: No more archived files Makefile:956: recipe for target 'install_lib' failed make: *** [install_lib] Error 1 **** Installation failed. Aborting package creation. Cleaning up...OK Bye.
I've compiled BerkelyDB on an ARM system on an external volume (which I flagged executable with mount -o remount, exec /path/to/external/volume/.
Any ideas? Thanks alot!

You should try on the BL forums, everyone has moved there.
