^You apply it to rusty nuts and bolts, hinges, locks--it lubricates and cleans. Belongs in every toolbox and workshop. But you don't use it to ... ah...stiffen up...ah...something gone soft.  roll

Re: The Official #! Over-the-Hill-CrunchGang Thread

^Well, if you want to stiffen a certain joint [cough], you don't need that pill that begins with V. There's a plant (active ingredient is icariin--same as in V) called epimedium aka yin yahng huo (淫羊藿), horny goat weed, among others. The white coats claim its effectiveness is "inconclusive," but Chinese men have been taking the stuff for centuriesbig_smile

Disclaimer: I take neither the pill that begins with the letter V, nor do I take epimedium in any form. However, when the day should arrive when I need to, I'll go with the latter.  devil  devil  devil

Yea and 27 gazillion Chinese people can't all be wrong.  Problem here is for us western society with a $$.¢¢ mentality if it doesn't come out of a well known "lab" - - - it's not good for you!

Chinese men have been taking lots of other stuff for a long time as well, including bits of tigers and rhinos - probably not a good argument to support claims for other substances wink

Re: The Official #! Over-the-Hill-CrunchGang Thread

@damo: But epimedium has the same key ingredient as V, i.e., icariin. Moreover, the side effects are similar, if not the same. Did you know that V was originally used to treat people with cardio-vascular issues. The "woody" effect turned out to be a common side effect and the manufacturer could profit with the two-in-one drug.

Perhaps, someone here has tried it or would be willing to test it?  Any volunteers?  big_smile

I just got back from neighbourhood "downtown" and saw "yin yahng huo (淫羊藿)" in a local pharmacy - in a capsule form.

Re: The Official #! Over-the-Hill-CrunchGang Thread

Well, to be strictly nit-picky, from the fount of all knowledge(?), wikipaedia:

icariin, is a PDE5 inhibitor like sildenafil, the active ingredient of Viagra

And the plant is also called barrenwort, bishop's hat, fairy wings, horny goat weed, rowdy lamb herb, randy beef grass or yin yang huo big_smile

However, I still stand by my assertion

Chinese men have been taking lots of other stuff for a long time as well, including bits of tigers and rhinos - probably not a good argument to support claims for other substances

Re: The Official #! Over-the-Hill-CrunchGang Thread

I wouldn't use WD-40 on any part of body, although I confess to using gasoline decades ago when I wanted to remove grease from my hands after tinkering with my motorcycle or car. yikes

For stiff, sore muscles, I use either Tiger Balm or dit dat jow.

Re: The Official #! Over-the-Hill-CrunchGang Thread

I use WD-40 for fire ant bites. For muscle and joint pain, I usually use Super Blue Emu cream.
