Re: CrunchBang reviews and mentions

^ Wow, that's a rather poetic review. cool  One thing though...

I'm sure the developers are aware that Vim is the perfect editor for Crunchbang.

Pfffffffft. I agree, pvsage. Different strokes for different folks, though I have to say that I've really warmed up to geany since using CrunchBang.

Re: CrunchBang reviews and mentions

Here's some Crunchbang history, Phillip Newbourough commenting on a very early version of Crunchbang Linux:

So, when I released the initial CrunchBang Linux I really didn’t think that anyone would actually download it.

His comments remind me a bit of Linus Torvald when he announced he was working on a new hobby OS:

I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big and professional like gnu)

Re: CrunchBang reviews and mentions

Hi guys! Long time without posting here... I was very very busy in the last year, but I have kept reading the forum almost daily!!!

Some fellow paisanos and I have started a new blog about the whole FLOSS world and we have had the pleasure to interview the one and only Larry Cafiero!!!
Larry was so kind and amazing and I just wanted to say thanks to him again.

Here you can find the first part of the interview, were we interviewed " The Crunchbang Guy": http://magliettabianca.blogspot.it/2013 … uy-12.html
The blog is Italian, but you can find the original plain text English interview here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/apx73u8lf3r39 … intext.txt

In the next few days the interview to "The Free Software Guy" will follow!

^ @2:07 "I'm not sure what that one is", as he clicks the omnipresence box. roll  Isn't that the traditional location for omnipresence/pin?  I figured that one out after less than a month on Ubuntu. neutral

I love to see amateurs attempt to review grown-up distros like CrunchBang - it's so obvious he's in it for the monetization.

My favorite sentence in the article about #!:

It works well on older machines, and can be easily fleshed out for relatively newer ones.

Wouldn't pay too much attention to the reviewer though: he's clueless --- just checked one of his Arch "how to"'s & he advised running "pacman -Syyy" yikes
Pacman only recognises two "y" flags...

man pacman wrote:

Download a fresh copy of the master package list from the server(s) defined in pacman.conf(5). This should typically be used each time you use --sysupgrade or -u. Passing two --refresh or -y flags will force a refresh of all package lists even if they appear to be up to date.

Re: CrunchBang reviews and mentions

I can't speak for his knowledge on Arch becauce, well, I have absolutely no knowledge of Arch, and frankly I don't care to find out any more than I already know about it. So to say that he's "clueless" because he doesn't know about Arch really means that he's only clueless about Arch.

He seems to nail it on the CrunchBang review. The only thing I would point out to him is that instead of visiting Google, he should have pointed folks here for answers -- a minor detail.

Re: CrunchBang reviews and mentions

I just noticed I've been running Crunchbang 11 since 07 Nov 2012, so for around 21 months now, the last 7 months in rolling mode following Jessie. That's about 3 months longer than Archbang - although that could have lasted longer had I not decided to replace it when early versions of the 3.x kernel seemed to consume a lot of memory.

Time for an article on my blog soon, although not exactly a review.
