Re: How to keep Iceweasel upgraded in #! with the Mozilla backport ...

Argue all you like, Australis is a step in the direction of Chrome.  Fewer bars, less configurability for addons, and weird ugly dropdowns that do surprisingly little while taking up a huge amount of space.  If I had a nickel for everyone who has complained that they can't see my addon icons any more, I'd be rich.  Not everyone has a 24" widescreen monitor or a touchscreen.

Fewer bars

If you want an actual bar, you have to install Status4evar. That hasn't changed since Firefox 4. The menu bar is still there (sorry damo, got you wrong there).

I have a 15".

You may further complain on changes to the addon interface, all the while everyone forgets improvements like:

PS: I'm not a mozilla fanboy, quite the opposite, but come on people. And if you really can't live with things like button placement:

If I were to write what I really think of Australis, I would be thrown off this forum and banned for life.

The only thing I still like about Firefox/Iceweasel is the way it handles bookmarks. No other browser I know handles bookmarks as well as Firefox, and xmarks works perfectly on it too, but I don't want to install yet more add-ons just to turn back what should have been left alone in the first place. Australis just puts me in a bad mood every day, so I took a step back/sideways and started using Pale Moon. Happy chappy again!

If you feel so inclined go (or in #!, stay) with Iceweasel 24, rather than jump on the crapware boat.

Re: How to keep Iceweasel upgraded in #! with the Mozilla backport ...

FF/IW 29 seems like a sad crippled wannabe Chrome more than a continuation of Firefox.

That I need to add multiple add-ons in order to merely get back the functionality of the previous version shows obvious steps in the wrong direction.

There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people.

I'm a little bemused Alad. The crapware Pale Moon browser you describe bears absolutely no resemblance to the Pale Moon browser 24.5 I'm using. In fact, I can't tell any difference between Pale Moon 24 and Firefox 24. When was the last time you used Pale Moon?

^ Yes you said it. There is absolutely no difference, except for all the downsides.

^ "All"? It would involve a LOT of backporting. Maybe MX-14 or MEPIS is better suited for you.

Wasn't saying it needed to be done or wanted it. Just wondering. Not sure on how the whole backport syystem works. But good to know I can update iceweasel that way on my other machine using stable.
