Re: September 2009 Screenshots thread

Here comes FVWM, vintage and a little bit clumsy, yet highly configurable and powerful:

picture.php?type=preview&id=9730&key=f386ee

I am writing a kind of howto based on FVWM beginners guide - trying things from there on my current system and see which of them still work and which need workarounds and so on, and I will probably make a translation when it's finished.

No problem, the thumbnail now links to your original image smile

This is also a timely opportunity to remind everyone to please use thumbnails linking to the larger image to help those of us with slow connections. An example of the code needed is below. Most image hosting websites will automatically generate this for you as well.

This saves me having to do it for you smile

Very nice, omns.  I wonder how it would look in green and grey (openSUSE) colours.  I don't use openSUSE but I like their colour scheme.

You could try fvwm beginner's guide, 'cause you speak english. I am making, well, some essays in russian, for those who don't speak english or just do not want to bother translating, and also try to simplify it a little, rearrange and add some screenshots and variants of config file, it's not a rocket science. I feel like i found a treasure - a perfect time-killer, more interesting and challenging than just tweaking conky-colors and menu.xml. It would be cool to talk to some actual fvwm users and to set up some cool things together. I remember the first time i installed vanilla openbox on pure X11 (it was arch), and making it useable was a great pastime and gave me some useful experience and understanding how does de work - because i tried to 'build' a desktop environment with automounting, autostarting, decent interface and blackjack and hookers necessary features having just a window manager. As all !# users can see, it is possible. Using fvwm is kinda next step - define a window manager's behaviour from scratch having, de facto, just a wm construction kit, and  then make a de of what you managed to set up.

And there is fvwm-crystal, fvwm which is already configured in order not to be that ugly.

Re: September 2009 Screenshots thread

This is still very much a work in progress. I am trying to keep using the same picture of my dog (I don't know why, but I just love the picture) and mix it together with a greyscale background. I may not be an artist, but I'm sure having fun making the wallpapers and playing with the Conky. wink

dirty

conkyrc: adapted from one anonymous published
bmpanel: crunchbang theme by omns
gtk theme: Dyne

P.S. : media player you can see in dirty screenshot is decibel-audio-player, which is very lightweight, for those who like that style.
