How old is #!?

Took a look at the About page for an answer to this question and didn't easily find a answer and am too lazy to look elsewhere.

Re: How old is #!?

My personal journey began when I started using Ubuntu 7.10, but my computer was too old, so I switched to this neat lightweight distro called Fluxbuntu 7.10. But then the developer abandoned the project, and I needed a new lightweight distro. Enter CrunchBang 8.04. smile

Re: How old is #!?

Just tried out #! 7.10 on a live disc to see what it was like - felt nostalgic somehow, despite the fact I didn't even know of the existence of #! until I found Statler (and even then, Waldorf was already well into the testing stage) big_smile

Some scrots: http://ubuntulook.com/2008/01/25/crunch … reenshots/

IIRC the panel was fbpanel or bmpanel or something like this, not tint2 -- but maybe I'm wrong...

Ahh. This takes me back; I got into #! at 8.04. I'm comment 18 on the release announcement. I also noticed that arpbook was on there too.

I ended up here along similar lines (Fluxbox). I'd been using Ubuntu for a while (prior to that Caldera and Red Hat and there was a gap between those and Ubuntu) but my PC was aging out so I switched to Xubuntu, then stripped that down to something similar to Fluxbuntu but it didn't make the jump to Hardy clean which I dealt with for a while but eventually had such a mess I tried CrunchBang as a recovery disc and then installed it. I lurked a while before actually signing up to the forum.

No, it's the pypanel  (at least on the scrots, and I remember having had the same default looks those days) :-)

pypanel 2.4-1.1build

Interesting that xfce4-panel is in the manifest. Maybe pypanel was for the lite edition.

Re: How old is #!?

Maybe xfce4-panel was pulled in by dependencies. Separate lite edition didn't appear before 8.10.02.

Re: How old is #!?

Yes, xfce4-panel gets pulled in by Thunar, doesn't it?

8.04 had full Xfce desktop in addition to Openbox, IIRC. smile

I never installed it for "real" until it became based on Debian.  What a big plus that was when it happened.

Same here, until it was Debian based, #! wasn't even an option

Re: How old is #!?

I also didn't try Crunchbang until it was under Debian. I had and still have my issues with Ubuntu so I was really excited about the switch. Long live #!
