You should go and complain that you only got one  angel

Though if you want something else, get an Intel Celeron 847 board tongue

This! If you ordered two find out what happened to the second one.

In case the second Pi is just (really) late, plan on giving the one you have now to your son.

Re: Raspberry Pi for Xmas

Considering how high demand is for the Raspberry Pi, and the manufacturer's desire to keep the price low, I'm wondering if the distributors are enforcing a one-per-customer rule.

They were happy to take payment for 2, tell me that 2 were dispatched, and there were 2 on the delivery note.
And one inside the box sad

Now I'll never be able to build a massively-parallel-processing-super-mini-computer cry

Re: Raspberry Pi for Xmas

I know everyone has been very concerned about this situation tongue, but I'd like to commend Pi Hut for their prompt response. I fired off an email yesterday evening, and they apologised and are sending the other rasp pi immediately. Very good service imo, considering the pressure they are probably under at this time of year smile

My boy is going to get something for xmas after all, yay  glasses

It's just for play really. And is about 1/3 the price of the celeron!

Re: Raspberry Pi for Xmas

I am having so much fun, and it's not even Xmas yet! Trying out different Pi distros; learning loads about networks, ftp, ssh etc.

I am stunned by the performance of PiBang, running off a micro sd - omxplayer plays videos in a reasonable resolution with no glitching and using only about 90M RAM. Windows take a bit of time to open, spacefm doesn't populate very quickly, but even so....I'm gobsmacked!

And if I bork it, I can just swap out the card and carry on smile

Re: Raspberry Pi for Xmas

My lad has just texted me from uni that he has got his pi up and running for the first time - he is well pleased and excited and full of project ideas smile

Another crunchbang convert hopefully (unlikely he will leave his Apple gear though). But if dad hadn't checked the NOOBS card first and found it was a bad image, and had to d/l and dd another one, there would have been tears before bedtime sad (his, not mine)

I've learnt more in the last few weeks about ssh/networks/wifi config/system nuts and bolts than in the last few years. (I'm even looking at terminal themeing etc to do stuff exclusively on the commandline - but don't tell anyone else will you? ops )

Re: Raspberry Pi for Xmas

What it is doing for me is allowing for lots of configuration and exploring of the system, especially low level stuff, that I wouldn't normally dare to try on my main machines. It doesn't matter if it gets borked - just swap the card out for a good backup one.

It's a bit more complicated now though cos I've got /boot on a small card, / and data on separate partitions on a usb stick. But now I can script rsync backups via ssh which I couldn't do before, and dd is just a pussy cat really. And fsarchiver is the most wonderful utility ever made big_smile
