It worked for me only when I used the version in 'testing'.
Thanks for the guide!
hmm.. i may have to convert to testing in that case then. hours of dist-upgrade i guess
For anyone still struggling with this, here's how I upgraded to thunar 1.6.2 today:
Added the siduction keyring:
wget http://packages.siduction.org/base/pool/main/s/siduction-archive-keyring/siduction-archive-keyring_2013.03.29_all.deb dpkg -i siduction-archive-keyring_2013.03.29_all.deb rm siduction-archive-keyring_2013.03.29_all.deb
Added the following line to /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://ftp.spline.de/pub/siduction/xfcenext unstable main
Added the following to /etc/apt/preferences:
Package: thunar libthunarx-2-0 thunar-data Pin: origin ftp.spline.de Pin-Priority: 1200
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install thunar
Thunar 1.6.3 brings in a lot more dependencies relative to Wheezy than 1.6.2 and I found this caused instabilities. Sid now has 1.6.3, while Siduction still has 1.6.2.
Also, one thing that can still delay the startup is an automount. I have several (ssh) automounted drives and if there is nothing on the other end they will hang for a few seconds before giving up. When Thunar encounters this, the blank frame opens and nothing happens for those several seconds. Other than that, the 1.6.* versions open instantly.
